Adcal-D3 Caplets&Superstrength Vitamin D3

Hi Everyone and Eileen especially.  I was trying to find out acceptable levels of vit D.  I take two 750mg/200 I.U. and just started another superstrength vitamin D3 25mcg(1,000iu) taking one of these.  Is this enough Eileen.  My last readings of vit D was 63 and the one before that was 72.  I know that 75 and upwards is good/normal.  I am at present in the midst of teeth implants and bone is vital for them.  I don't want to lose bone density.  And it is me that has to wait 6 months for an urgent appt. I was undiagnosed with PMR since June/July last year and was only diagnosed there in November.  I am trying to do everything I possibly can to help with my recovery/remission.  Thanks in advance.    Pat

Hi pat, I fully understand the bit about wanting to do everything that is possible to help contribute to our recovery and overall health improvement. Having said that I can't help you re the levels of vit d problem. However, what I want to say is along with vit d, I also take calcium and magnesium daily, the RDA amounts as I believe these 2 minerals (or whatever they are classed as) are just as important. Good luck, christina

Hi Christina, yes I take adcal & vit D, 1000mg of vit C, vit B strong compound, omega 3 and evening primrose oil, so the one I am missing is magnesium, so have to get me skates on and order some.  I am so grateful for all the info.   Thanks, Pat

Hi pat, apparently magnesium should almost certainly be taken when vit c is taken in such large doses.  It helps prevent kidney stones forming. Also, it is recommended that for whatever dose of calcium you take daily you should take half that amount of magnesium? Why I don't know. Please anyone out there please confirm what I am saying. All the best, christina

Thank you Christina, my adcal-D3 is 750mg/200 I.U. I take two of these every day.  I don't know how much of this is calcium (maybe 750mg) . Oh my head is pickled lol with these I.U. and whatever they mean, now it's all as clear as mud lol or maybe it's brain fog.

That isn't a bad dose of vit D but there would be no harm taking another of your "superstrength" vit D if you are worried. I take 5000 IU during the winter. Your vit D is just into the decent range so you're not too bad - there's a long way to go before you get to the "too high" range.

Thanks Eileen, I was going down the lines of what you are saying because I can remember an answer either to me or someone else.  I just wanted to make sure.  I really don't be out that often, even in the summer but hopefully this summer I will.  I know I am only a wee bit away from the norm 75 but I want to do everything I possibly can to help this PMR.  Thanks again.      Pat

My blood test results for vit D say normal is 50-150. Do yours say 75-?.

Hi ptolemy, yes normal started at 75 and went up to (dont quote me) 150 I think.

How strange, I suppose quite a few ranges seem to vary from place to place. My reading was 26, I had another test today, so it should be interesting what it is now.

That is quite low for vitamin D.   I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but even when the sun is out I am not out often enough.  Hopefully that's going to change.

My GP thought it was a bit low too. I take two Adcal-D3 a day and I am waiting for the sun!

It is very low and also I take two Adcal-D3 as well.  You may need more vit D and also when you do take your Adcal-D3 you cannot eat a banana or spinach within a period of 2 hours, but check this yourself, it should be on the instruction leaflet that came with Adcal-D3.  Pat

I usually have some yogurt or cheese with the vit D. I heard it likes fat!! My calcium levels are normal so I will stay on the current dose.

If Vit D likes fat I want to know why my levels are always low! LOL

As an aside, I live in Australia and I'm always in the sunshine and you'd think that my levels would be great, but noooooo......

Pat, how nice you live in Ireland.  I always wanted to visit Ireland and Scotland.  My son- in -law is Scottish and he is a fine chap teaching in Vancouver, B.C.

We celebrated St. Patrick's Day yesterday, and there was a parade with fun music.  Here in America this day is much recognized because there are so many Irish who immigrated into this country.

Hi Erika, yes I live in Ireland, the North which is still part of United Kingdom.  The people here are soo warm and friendly despite the eejits (idiots) who want to keep fighting.  Scottish and Irish are very alike the only difference is our accent.  There is a society here called Ulster Scots and it's a dialect, some of our words are from the Irish language ie., brogue meaning shoe.  I didn't celebrate St. Paddys day, I suppose when you live here, you just take it for granted.  I am not well enough to go watch a parade, I would need loads of energy that I haven't got at present.

But you don't go out without slip, slap, slopping I bet! Nor do you go out in the midday sun for long.

The fat bit is because vit D supplements catch the fat bus to get from the gut to the blood...

Hi Pat,  I hear that it is more of an event here in the USA than in your beautiful Ireland.

I am getting slowly better because of the deep muscle inflammation in my back.  I did have to buy a new bed with a pro-motion moveable base and a better cushioned mattress.  It has helped my back a great deal.  One needs to do what one needs to do.......even implants. :-)

      lol

I'm very slack with the sunblock.. although as I burn very quickly I tend to avoid staying out in the sun for long.

fat bus? more like a road train - have you seen the size of the ones we have here in Oz? :-)
