Adding citalopram to Mirtazapine

hi
I have put this in the Mirtazapine group but am putting here also as i havent had a response on that group.
I did ask a similar question a while ago about switching to Cit but I increased the dose rather than changing but the response has not been as I would have wanted.
I have had 2 bouts of depression and anxiety previously to this current bout.
I have previously taken venlafaxine and citalopram. was lastly on citalopram 15mg about 2 years ago and stopped after about 10 months after feeling better, but obviously too soon. it took about 3 months to settle on citalopram, nauseous digestive and anxiety.
I have been on mirtazapine for about 10 months starting at 15 and increasing to 37.5 mg. the last increase from 30mg to 37.5mg about 4 weeks ago.
It has helped, but my mood is still low and and I am anxious during the day and fixating on stuff. i am sleeping ok but am still tired, lethargic and anxious during the day i am also a bit foggy and not my normal self.
Dr is suggesting that we could add citalopram to the mirtazapine. at 10mg, maybe reducing mirtazapine and then maybe increasing cit and decreasing mirt further.
I was put on Venlafaxine first as i tried sertraline for 1 day and immediately had diarrhea so was switched to venlafaxine. This worked but i had a terrible time starting. Citalopram was tough starting too, but i had more experience so was more prepared. These start up effects lasted about 3 months. I started Mirtazapine this time as the start up on cit was prolonged and i wasnt sleeping well either.
I am now getting a bit frustrated that it has been 10 months on the Mirt and i havent had a good enough response so am considering adding the Mirtazapine. Depending if i do add Cit and how it goes i may look to reduce the Mirt altogether.
I am concerned that the start up may be awful but would be OK with that, i think, if i was able to get a more positive response.
has anyone had experience of adding citalopram to mirtazapine. how did it go, were there start up side effects.
thanks in advance

hello there
only just spotted your post. i had been on mirtazapine for 6 months. 3 months on 15mg and 3 months on 30mg. at the end of this period i felt that this med was great for sleep but not for anxiety and depression. i hen went into 15mg mirt at night abd 20mg cit for anxiety and depression. 6 months on i feel as though these doses have settled for me. could be quicker for you. search for a lady called katecoge on this site who gives great advice and support
