Adizem - Adverse effect

Posted , 3 users are following.

Was changed from bisoprolol to Adizem last week with disastrous effects when heart rate literally went through the roof as well as my BP. Cardiac Paramedic was great. Fortunately I took my Flecainide earlier than normal when I feel a spell coming on and I think that saved the day. Another couple of visits to A&E and unrelenting SVT. They now say they don't know whether I have AF or SVT: is anyone out there in the same boat. Another lot of monitoring to do - but I asked the Doc this morning if you get put on meds which control the symptoms most of the time the monitor isn't going to show the evidence. My Flecainide's been increased to 100mg twice a day + 1.25mg bisoprolol. Not optimistic so instead of Gotabitbetter I regret to say I'm now got a lot worse (12 months since the failed EP/ablation). Any advice greatly appreciated, before the next 111/999 call.

Why you give up Bisprolol? I have PAfib and take 3.5mg Bisoprolol for BP control and find it much better for my PAfib than Ramapril and Candesartan which were a disaster.

Get back on to a beta blocker!  Atenolol or propanolol-dont mess with your calcium channels.

Never a truer word spoken Terence! Went back on v low dose of bisoprolol 1.25 and now they've doubled my Flecainide to 100 twice a day. Second day on this regime. I was changed because I was having dreadful shortness of breath on walking and dizziness.

They are now querying the diagnosis and want another monitor to see the BLIPS - trouble is the meds mask them and by the time ambulance or hospital get me wired up the moment has passed. I tried the Valsalva Manoeuvre last night which did work but it scared the life out of me with a whoosh and I don't know whether it's safe to do it very often. Have you heard of this, please?
