Anyone here have CMV Mono as an adult? Was diagnosed and trying to figure this all out. If you have a current CMV or have had CMV as an adult, can you tell me  your experience please? Than you.

    Hi Jen,

i was diagnosed with both CMV and EBV in January.  I feel like death warmed up most of the time, with so many symptoms.  I don’t know which symptom to attribute to which virus.  I had noticed I was getting weaker leading up to Christmas and very tired, but the weakness and pain really took effect in early January.  I’ve never been a sporty type person, but have always been very active.  I believe I became sick after 5 years of unrelenting stress and when the stresses seemed to be relieved that’s when my body packed it in.  I’ve tried all sorts of supplements and am taking panadeine forte and Mersondyl but they really only take the edge of things.  My biggest frustration is how stiff and unbending my body has become.  It’s like the ligaments have shrunk or something!  Just turning over in bed hurts and wakes me up!  I have noticed once I’m standing and have taken several steps, I can walk easier.  I’m just so sick of being sick!  I have had the odd occasion where I feel really good and supple for a few hours and I think, yes, I’ve turned the corner, only to be smacked down again.  I’m trying to stay positive but gee it’s hard!

Poor you Amanda, what a terrible time you've been through. You must be so sick of all this, just want to reassure that with my EBV things did get better with time - I was still in a bad way after 3-4 months, it took a few months longer for me but I did get there and this is the worst phase you are going through right now, things will get better and the intensity lessens and I do believe you will reach a phase of full recovery given time - hang in there.

Thankyou Craig for your kind and reassuring words, I really appreciate them.  I have to admit I am worried something else is going on as it’s unusual for both to reactivate .  My doctor has checked for the usual suspects - scleredoma, lupus, etc and they have some back negative fortunately.  At least I’ve been blessed with doctors that listen!

Thanks Amanda, it's just so hard to deal with I remember from going through it myself and that was just with EBV, so for you to be dealing with that and CMW is a double whammy and no wonder you are feeling so poorly. These viruses do pass and do get better in vast majority of cases, even though it can leave you feeling beaten up for months sometimes unfortunately but just want you to hold onto hope, remember there is hope and things can change. I understand your fears and worries about other things, I constantly thought that when going through it but turned out just to be the virus, but doing the right thing by checking in with the doctor and that's all you can do and just keep remembering there is hope and recovery ahead!

Hi Jen, they have checked my TSH, which is in the normal range, but they won’t check the T3 and T4 unless it’s outside the normal range.  Prior to becoming sick in December/January I had put on 15 kg very quickly without changing my eating habits and I just couldn’t shift it (apparently stress can do that to you).  Since these viruses reared their horrible symptoms, I’ve lost 9 kg, so I guess that’s a blessing in disguise as I’m nearly back to normal weight.  I have cut out Dairy and most Carbs as they just didn’t sit well with me since becoming sick.

I’ve cut dairy and gluten , sugar too without consulting with any doctor. I needed to do something myself as my throat was swelling without reason.

Hi Christine, I’m taking Colloidal silver, oregano oil capsules, Lysine and Olive leaf extract.  After starting those my throat felt a lot better.  I’ve just upped taking the oregano and olive leaf extract twice a day and the Colloidal silver and Lysine three times a day.  I’m taking other supplements also and like you have cut out sugar.  When I first had my blood test results back, my liver enzymes came back abnormal so I cut the dairy, except in my coffee.  It (the liver) was 3cm bigger than it should have been on palpitation so I was sent for an ultrasound which showed it was 2cm bigger but not showing any disease or tumours.  My gall bladder showed stones though, but I don’t have any symptoms!

i don’t know if it was a coincidence or if they really have helped, but this year when the Murraya bloomed, I didn’t get sinitis or asthma!  So when I’m better I will continue to take the Colloidal silver and the Olive leaf extract indefinitely.

i found Yogi Throat Comfort really soothing on my throat.  It’s a tea bag and I’d have a cup made up all the time and sip it if it was hot or cold.  It doesn’t taste too bad either!

I hope some of this info helps smile. Really do your research as far as buying any of these supplements as they vary a lot in price from different suppliers.  I’m in Australia and the cost is extraordinarily high compared to overseas and that includes postage!

Hey Christine and Amanda - you guys should be pleased with yourselves because you are doing all you can to help yourselves by eating healthier, etc - remember that's not easy and it's an achievement to take note of at this time, so if you ever feel like beating yourself up, remember how you have responded positively in the face of adversity and shown courage even though you don't realise it always!

It's that kind of attitude that convinces me that you both are going to make a FULL and COMPLETE recovery, even if it's not tomorrow or next week, that is going to happen I do believe for both of you and trusting God with that.

Thanks Amanda for your suggestions. I love natural methods over medical treatments.

Just a quick one guys, just to say hoping for a good and settled day for everyone - remember not to give up and that resting isn't giving up, sometimes we are just weary mentally as well as physically and it's okay to rest, God can renew our strength through rest a lot of the time.

How are you feeling now Amanda? I am 14 months in and still have days when I feel like I am back at square one (yday was one of them) and other days when I feel marvelous. Unfortunately the marvelous feeling days never seem to last more than about a week at a time.

Hi, I know this discussion was a while ago but I have been struggling with what I thought was mono for about 5 weeks. I got diagnosed from a positive mono spot but my EBV test came back normal so I couldn’t have had mono. Does this sound like it could be CMV instead as I didn’t suffer with an extremely sore throat either.

      Hi Paige,

It might be worth asking your doctor to do a blood test for CMV, I think they can do that anyway same as EBV not 100% sure. I think the two viruses cause similar kind of symptoms and effects, so I'm guessing it would be hard to tell the difference between one and the other just from symptoms alone. Not everyone gets a sore throat with mono, it wasn't something that particularly bothered me much I felt more just unwell and fatigued and with low grade fever most of the time.

Still thinking of you and believing you are going to get better - do something nice for yourself today as you deserve it as you've been through such a rough few weeks.

      Hi Paige,

I agree with Craig, ask the doc to test you for CMV. Not sure if you have any of the following symptoms?  I have the extreme sore throat off and on, some pretty intense lymph node pain in my neck/under my ears, joint and body aches, dizziness, nausea, and cycles during the day of slight energy and then extreme fatigue. I have actually had to pull over, thought I was going to fall asleep driving.  I guess it is a little different for everyone. I also have an underlying condition, so that could also be adding to it.

Just FYI, My regular MD sent me to a specialist, Infectious Disease doctor after I tested positive for CMV, and he said that the virus usually lasts for a minimum of six months and up to two years if you don’t slow down and take care of yourself. So, do get checked and do slow down and take care of yourself.

Hi, i have nausea, dizziness and body aches. Unfortunately my doctor wont test me for  CMV. I am in the process of finding a new doctor rolleyes

Goodness Jen I really hope you're feeling much better soon, it is so horrible when you feel like you want to make progress and are ready to in your mind but your body isn't wanting to go along with it. Thinking of you and hang in there.

Good luck with finding a new doctor Paige, I really don't know why doctors refuse simple tests, empathising with you for that and if you have someone maybe to go with you to stress the point that this test is really important to you maybe that might help a bit, I know how hard and daunting it can be trying to debate or disagree with a doctor, but they should listen more to patients after all the person knows their body better than anyone else.

Sounds about right Paige…. yes, find a new doctor. They can’t do much as far as medications to get rid of CMV, but you should know if you have CMV. They should run a bunch of lab work on you just to make sure you don’t have anything else going on, per my specialist, it’s not something that is very common.

Thanks Craig, how long have you have CMV? I appreciate your support, trust me!

      Hi Jen,

It wasn't CMV I had but mono / glandular fever caused by EBV - that was a number of years ago thankfully, it took me a number of months to get over it but did get there in the end - just want you and others to know that there is recovery out there and things do get better with time!! Hang in there!
