Advantan Fatty Ointment

Hi everyone,

After seeing a new vulva specialist she has prescribed Advantan Fatty Ointment to use everyday before bed for the next 2 months till I see her again.

I was on an ultra potent steroid - Diprosone to be exact for 2 months. That was prescribed by my previous doctor. I'm concerned that the white areas are not disappearing, have they scarred for life? I would love them to disappear. Or am I making a big deal over it?

She has also diagnosed me with pelvic floor tension/spasm and has referred me to a pelvic physio. Hoping that will help with the soreness and tightness I'm feeling.

That is what I use...Advantan fatty ointment. It is better absorbed than a cream apparently. I am in Australia. That has been prescribed by Mercy Hospital in Melbourne that has a special clinic for LS.

    i believe it is effective.

      Hi Kathleen

I'm curious about this advantan fatty acid. I wonder if you would explain what it is and how it works please?

Hi Kathleen, I have been diagnosed today (Dec 2016). Do you have to use the Advantan for the rest of your life - like me? Did they say it's pre-cancerous? Im in Sydney NSW

      Hi Vanessa,

Yes, I will need to use the Advantan forever most likely. Cancer only happens if you neglect to cover all the LS properly.

They tell me each time where I need to concentrate.

I am so luck to have the Mercy Hospital who take really good care of me.

Just stay on top of the LS and you will be fine. Use sparingly but thoroughly!

      All the best.

Thanks for replying Kathleen - much appreciated.

Has Mercy ever noted anyone with LS being cured?

I am reading that it may be an auto-immune problem.

I have never been a sickly person at all, so obviously doing this every night for the rest of my life has come as a shock!

Not cured but some luckily stop having LS. You can't count on it but it would be nice to have that happen.

It is an autoimmune disease for some people at least as I have a number of those.

There are worse things to have so I guess we just accept it and be glad we have special clinics to attend as some do not have that.

That is interesting what you say about pelvic floor tension/spasm. I think some of my problems stem from having a tilted pelvis and tight adductor muscles. I started massaging my muscles a couple of days ago and stretching exercises and I felt some tension release. Hope your physio goes well.

what a diligent GP you have! I'm sure we'd all benefit from pelvic floor exercises...infact i'm pulling up right now....so thanks for the reminder!!

what exactly is this advantan fatty acid? does it have a steroid in it? Or is it a nourishing cream?

Advantan fatty ointment does have a steroid but apparently not as much as some others. It is an ointment rather than a cream so it is absorbed much better. I find it works very well. If you type in Advantan in your search engine you will be able to find a pamphlet that lists the ingredients. I use dermeze for a moisturiser which is like Vaseline.

As Kathleen said it does have a steroid in it. It's classified as potent, not ultra potent like clob. Basically the next class down in steroids.

I changed doctors last month and she put me on this. It's been 5 1/2 weeks. Some days the burning is quite mild, which is great because the burning was there 24 hours 7 days a week initially. Now the burning comes and goes to varying degrees. Monday was bad, but today better. The only thing is I'm having some itching around the clitoris/skin around that area. It's strange actually, when I touch the skin, even lightly brush my finger against it to apply the creams/moisturizer or pat myself dry after urinating it seems to illicit an itch.

I have used the Advantan fatty ointment for years and have no burning or itching. Just make sure you use enough as I noticed some were using like a pea sized amount and that would nowhere near be enough for me. Between all the areas front and back I would use close to half a teaspoon or at least a third of one.

thanks so much kathleen and joules...i'll look further into this...by way of increasing my armoury. its good to have things to revert to in an emergency.

i seem to be ok at the mo...but am following with care whats happening to others and keeping an open mind.

so far i  have been able to stop further escalation by omitting foods to which i seem to have developed an intolerance. i was very interested kathleen to hear what you said about your husband being allergic to dairy milk. i wondered was this a recent thing? And also how did he discover it?

My husband was well aware as he had to go to the toilet with tummy pains. His father had the same problem. It usually runs in families. However, I am a firm believer that diet does not impact the LS. I rather think it is auto immune. I have other auto immune conditions.

thanks for your response. great that your husband identified the cause of his problem...so many don't and suffer for years from IBS.

sorry you have other autoimmune issues. i have autoimmune thyroiditis too so i sympathise. am working on how to resolve these things but its not easy!!

    Hi Jules,

I have just been diagnosed with similar (Dec 2016). Apparently it's pre-cancerous and I will need to apply the Advantan ointment for the rest of my life!! with 3 monthly checkups as well. They say they don't know the cause - it's not genetic. But I have noticed that every since I have put on excessive weight this problem has arisen.

    What is your update??
