This is what I read on webmd
HSV-2 is most often passed by vaginal sex and anal sex. But just as HSV-1 can infect the genitals and cause genital herpes, HSV-2 can pass from one person's genitals to another person's mouth, resulting in oral herpes.
HSV-2 cannot survive long on a non-living surface, so there is no real risk of getting it from a toilet seat or hot tub, for example.

Well, how they explained it was once the virus settles somewhere it's not going to affect any other area. Does that make sense? Like if you have HSV-2 on your vagina it will not spread to your mouth it only stays in one area. I'm trying to look up what article I found that said this.

From what I read it says that it's possible, but most likely won't happen unless you are about to have an outbreak or are having an outbreak. I just found out that I have it back in September, I've been reading alot.

I've read things that said you can catch the other one even though you have hsv2. The only I found out I have it is because I get tested every year. I thought it was the guy I've been dealing with for almost a year and we wasn't using protection. He did both on me and when he got tested it came back negative for both. My results came back with a low number for positive for 2, but I don't have any symptoms and have never had an outbreak.

He can get it orally, but if he does, that's actually much better than getting it genitally, as HSV2 rarely causes outbreaks and shedding orally. Once you have one HSV type for 4+ months, in theory you should be immune from acquiring that same type elsewhere. Exceptions may occur.
