Hi I am 9 weeks post op and have just started experiencing like a grinding/cracking on the outer side of my leg i have no swelling but my knee feels really week like it is going to give way.

Anyone else had this and does anyone know if it’s safe to wear some kind of knee support

Thanks

It is totally normal to hear popping, clicking and clunking sounds from a new knee.  Docs say it can last 12-18 months.  I'm almost 2 years and I still hear the knee from time to time.  The weakness may very well be caused by the fact that your quads, glutes are core are all atrophied...door nail dead.  This puts all the pressure to walk and move on the knee instead of the surrounding musculature where it belongs.  Therefore, assuming that you've done all the PT work to get your 0 / +120 ROM back, you now have to rebuild all that lost strength...

If you still need to continue the ROM work...

This whole thing takes a year.  Count on it...commit to it.  Without your ROM and strength, you will never climb stairs correctly ever again and probably limp with a cane forever.  Wanna get your life back?  Do the work!  This op is not for wimps and YOU ARE NOT A WIMP!!!!!!  You've barely started...but it's soooo worth it in the end!!!

My knee would clunk a bit regularly in the early months, only does it occasionally now. I wouldn't describe it as cracking though. I think if worried get it checked out.
