Today I returned to the hospital to see the neuro surgeon. I had an MRI scan which showed compressed discs and a bulge. The original consultant sent me for nerve induction tasts also to see if carpel tunnel was making the condition worst. I was told that I had mild carpel tunnel. When I went today this is all he seemed bothered about and more or less dismissed the compressed discs and the bulge.
When I questioned this desicion he became very abrupt and more or less take this op or nothing. I went on to explain that all my friends etc who had, had this condition did not experience pains in their neck, shoulder and right down the arm. Just had tingling and numbness. I have agreed to have the c/t op but am unsure what to do or where to turn if it does not have the desired affect. He did say if this happened he may refer me to a rheumatologist, what do they do for us, does anyone know? My GP when he got the report and since has said to me the only solution to all my pain is an operation. Is it worth getting a second opinion? Regards and thanks for any help

How can a bloody neurosurgeon ignore compressed and bulging discs!!
Putting myself in your place, I would put the op on hold and get to see a rheumatologist, I paid privately to see one, cost £150 quid but was well worth it, do you have private medical cover?
Also it may be well worth finding out if you have a neurosurgeon in your area whose speciality field is in spinal problems.
I had a multi level laminectomy 2.5 years ago, but was told at the very beginning that it would not cure my CS but would slow the progress down. I am still in quite alot of pain, but am able to hold things now, where I couldn't before.

I was told by a neurologist at hospital last week that not all neuro surgeons are prepared to operate for cs, one because of the risks and two because not all neur surgeons can actually do it. It really depends on how severe your cs is and which particular op is best. I think you really do need a second oppinion. There is no guarantee that a ct op will ease your pain, it certainly won't if cs is the main cause of your pain.
Ask to be referred to a rheumatologist, they may then refer you back to the neuro surgeon, maybe even a different one. Don't give in, keep pushing.
Good luck.

She also felt I should not have the c/t op but to seek a second opinion. I will go back to my GP and see what he says I am not convinced that is the problem as it is very mild and nothing like any symptoms freinds have had with c/t. Thanks again
