Advice Appreciated Please

Hi Everyone,

I had a THR back in February and do manual work for a living.

My company and management were excellent in helping me through and everything seemed to be going alright as by June I was back doing normal tasks but struggled a bit at the beginning.

As time went on it started to feel stronger but then it seemed to start hurting again causing me to limp quite a lot.

About a month or so ago I was trying to move something heavy when the hip kind of went into a spasm and I thought something bad had happened.

It went away after a few minutes and I cautiously finished my days work.

The next couple of days I was off it was simply hurting to walk around.

Long story short went to the doctors, sent for xrays, hip all okay.

Problem I have now is I am signed off work and don't really know what to do or where I stand as far as moving forward in my current job.....it does seem like the job is aggravating the hip.

Has anyone been in a similar position and what did you do?

Thanks for your help/advice in advance

Sorry you are going through this. I was approved for disability after my job as a non- medical transportation driver deemed to stressful for my hip. I wish you well.

    Hi Liverpool

I am having issues at work too. I work with Autistic people and it has become an increasingly physical job. I am waiting for a THR but may be 6 months or more meanwhile it is not really possible for me to do my job without risk to myself and others as i can't move quickly or well. My employers I think are not really sympathetic despite being a charity that 'cares'.

I am currently on a shorter hours temp contract which will not last past xmas! After that I think I will be out. I have looked into it and talked to Acas doesnt seem to be much I can do unless it is classed as disability.

The irony is I want to get out of this job but not like this.

Can your employer change your duties at all.

You have my sympathies none of this is easy the last thing you need is money worries too.

      Hi Hobbling,

      Good name lol

Thanks for the message and I'm sorry to hear about your problems....all becomes a bit messy doesn't it! I hope you get your op sooner rather than later and my advice would be to not rush back and think everything as back to normal as i fear i have made this mistake.

My employer has said there are no lighter duties which leaves me with a pretty obvious decision in my mind.

      Best of luck
