Advice for Eye Entropion (inward eyelid) sufferers

My elderly relative recently developed a truly horrible condition known as Entropion in which the eyelid turns inwards and the hairs rub against the eyeball causing excessive watering of the eye and nose and extreme pain and irritation. I am trying to arrange a consultation to get a permanent treatment arranged. However, I am really looking for advice on dealing with the condition on a day to day basis and possible temporary treatments that might help to reduce the impact on the condition while permanent treatment is arranged.

A major worry is that they have to keep rubbing the eye with tissues to clear moisture, which is making the skin around it extremely red and sore and could introduce infection, which is really the last thing we want with all the trouble already. Is there any better way to get relief from the condition?

We have had appointments with the optician but all he could recommend for us was applying a thick eye gel regularly for lubrication. However this only provides very minimal fleeting relief unfortunately.

There is very little you can do for this condition apart from gently pulling the eyelid outwards and applying thick eye gel or ointment, especially at night . Surgery is really the only permanent solution, and is very successful .
