Advice for HS in the genital area?

Hello!

I am a 17 year old female that has been struggling with HS since I was 14, and I just need some advice on how to control the HS in the genital area. I started getting bumps and boils down there last year and although they have only been ridiculously painful once or twice, I want to start treating it sooner than later in order to prevent it from getting worse. Mainly I have only gotten HS on both my armpits, and I have tried aloe vera, which I recommend trying although, for me it sometimes helps the bumps/redness/boils calm down. I have heard of manuka honey and today is the first day I am trying it! And for those who have tried it, how was your experience? Did it work? If so, how long did it take to see results?

But if anyone can tell me what has worked for their genital area and what has not, that will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!!

Hi, sorry to hear your going through this it sucks! I’ve had it for 8 years now and I struggle with the same areas. Armpits for years then wham downstairs.  The only tips I can pass along that work for me are- try to avoid sitting directly on your on your behind for long periods even if it feels ok as for me the pressure seems to make ones pop up.

Bath in Epsom salts a couple of times a week.

And weirdly vicks vapour rub has saved me. I put some on every night over the bumps and it almost numbs them so I can sleep. It also drains them quicker I find. I’ve used it throughout the day as well on a dressing just so I can keep moving until the end of work.

I’m waiting to be put on humira at the moment and awaiting surgery again for the arm area.  It feels never ending sometimes but I’m keeping hope.  Sorry I can’t offer more I really hope you find something that works for you .  Xx

Thank you for responding! I will definitely try the vapour rub and the epsom salts.

Does the surgery help? I remember going to a plastic surgeon in order to improve my HS and he basically said it wouldn’t help and it would be too risky. But as for your surgery I hope it goes all well and wishing you the best in your recovery process!

    HI Steph:

I too have HS of the groin, yes it sucks! I’m now on Taltz; which has really reduced my symptoms.  You may want to try  Bleach baths a few times a week, especially when you’re draining and ask your dermatologist about Metro gel.  It’s a topical that i find helpful.  Good luck!

Ask your doctor to prescribe you clindamycin phosphate lotion. It’s literally a miracle what it does! Apply it all the time, even if you feel one progressing! For me, they don’t show up if I do that! But my advice along side this is to experiment with your diet. You are more likely to put HS to a hauler if you find your trigger foods. Believe me! 19 years and they only stopped showing up once I cut out sugar. But lots of people have different triggers. Hope you find yours! But try the lotion to help in the time being! Its the magic lotion I always wanted to find smile
