Advice needed!

So I developed 3-4 blisters on my anus which burst and have healed already. I went to my GP twice, the first said I had a skin tag and thrush so gave me clotrimazole/hydrocortisone cream which states not to be used on herpes. The second GP wasn't sure either and said could be shingles and prescribed me with Acyclovir 800mg 5 times a day. I suspect Herpes but the GP wouldn't take a swab and I couldn't get in the gum clinic.

I haven't been sexually active since September 2018 so this has all come out of the blue. When can I have the blood test to see if positive for Herpes?

hiya as far as I know you need to be in the middle of a outbreak of herpes for it to come up positive in a blood test! so if the blisters appear again that's the time, if it was the shingles you would be in a really bad way, bed ridden even,

    hope you'll be ok

my understanding, per my gyno, is that you can get the blood test done at anytime but for it to be accurate it should be done anytime past 16 weeks post exposure which in your case is past 12 months so whatever the IGG blood test results are hsv1&2 will be accurate.

by now you can test for it. if you do have herpes the results will be positive. since its been a year since possible exposure, the test can be conclusive

if your positive for herpes it will come up on a blood test outbreak or not! ideally swabs are better and have higher results of accuracy.

the majority of people with herpes never have symptoms or outbreaks and still test positives.

you could get your blood tests done for

your own piece of mind or try get swabs again if they reoccur! i also know some places do urine pcr tests but arent always accurate as there needs to be viral shedding!

use protection for yourself and any potential partners until then 😃 good luck!
