I find gaviscon double action better. I have been on lansoprazole/omerazole 30/20 mg daily coz i have been diagnosed with a large sliding hiatal hernia which causes silent acid reflux. You can try probiitics to speed up ur digestion and reduce acid production. May i ask if you are xperiencing gerd/chest pains and the like? Tnx and God bless.

      Yes i am.

Over a yr ago i stopped smoking as started some dry cough and I admitted to myself that smoking wont make it better.

Went cold turkey and got all those withdrawals like smokers flu....

Once that was gone my stomach started rumbling and from there i litterally overnight got so many symptoms gerd and lpr too.

Both omeprazole and lansoprazole stopped working for me.

Ive had all sirts if tests and more coming. No final diagnosis.

Im literally beghing doctors to believe me and help me.

Oh i feel sorry for ur situation. i have been on ppis for almost 5 yrs now. i always tried to stop but acid bounces back. try not to stress urself too much with ur situation. stress adds up to more acid and abdominal discomfort. tell ur doctor to listen carefully to what u have been going through. i now have learned to live with my situation. i sleep with my upper body elevated and doesnt eat after 6pm. have u undergone an upper endoscopy? must check and see ur esophagus and stomach. hope its not gastritis or ulcer. keep calm and relaxed.

Its hard to find a doctor who genuinly wants to push my issue forward. I could write an essey here what is the contact with gps and specialist like.

No one takes notice how bad u really are. Ure just put in the queue and beg for time to fly.

I cant sleep on raised bed as not enough. I gave to sleep in armchair.

Ive had endoscopy last january with nothing major found however im not healing and its not been resolved.

Ive had numerous blood tests including allergies, lung function test, chest CT scan.

Everytime i felt better and attempted to taoer the meds off i got ill within 4days. And when i restarted the meds it stopped bringing relief.

This happened with omeprazole and lansoprazole.

Now im on esomeprazole 3weeks and getting some relief, but have symptoms each day. Diet makes very little diference to me but i am strict with it anyway.

One of the doctors hinted that esomeprazole is too expensive and that i should be on a cheaper drug. It brought tears to my eyes as this is the only thing which cuts half my problems.

Im hoping i meet a doctor wholl help me.

I used to be perfectly healthy person. This is how i ended up. Not what one would expect in their 30ties 😓

Ur right. its quite hard to find a doctor who listens to and analyzes a patients concern. i stopped seeing my gastro and just browse on patients stories on the web. i find them more relieving. just go on with the meds u find relieving to you. and stay calm and not worry too much. u will be fine anyway. dont panic and always breathe slowly and deeply when u feel upset. btw i take 500 mcg of b12 supplements nightly and it helps a lot. God bless.

      Alvin44382,

If you don’t mind me asking! What does vitamin b12 do for you! I have had everything you can think of done! I still have no relief! Take Prilosec 20mg 2xday! Can’t seem to find any relief!

Hi Diane. Vitamin B12 is a essential vitamin which helps to produce RBCs and many other vital functions. When you take PPIs daily, Vitamin B12 dosen't get absorbed because it needs stomach acid and PPIs blocks acid. If you're taking PPIs daily, you have to take regular Vitamin D and vitamimB12 supplements. You also have to regularly eat foods rich in probiotics like kimchee or yoghurt to avoid stomach infections.

Hi Alvin. I am suffering from GERD from last 3 months. I tried to come of PPIs, but all symtoms started coming back and I'm back on it again. Is there any other supplements you take or lifestyle change to manage GERD.

Dear Ashley... I have been on ppis for almost 5 years now. tried to come off them many times but each time acid bounces back leaving me with sore throat and ear pain. I am taking 30mg lansoprazole daily presently and its the only way i find relief. i sleep with upper body elevated, no food after 6pm, no coffee/tea/softdrinks/milk/spicy and fatty foods...i take magnesium and b12 supplements daily. So far i have learned to live with this situation. btw, i have a large sliding hiatal hernia which makes me very vulnerable to acid reflux. I think you have to continue your ppi until such time ur gut is back to normal. u have plenty of time to recover.

I also have hiatal hernia but doc says it's not causing symtoms. He says I'm suffering GERD due to weak eosphaghus muscle. Are you doing those hiatal hernia exercises where you're supposed drink water and drop down off stairs or something?

yes...i do those hiatal hernia excercises and the breathing too. my hh is large that just bending forward leaves me catching my breath. i cant eat a large meal coz just a small bowl of food feels full to my tummy. its really depressing not to have a normal life again. i guess i have to be on ppi for life.

Even I've forgotten what normal life is, even though it's just been three months. I am also preparing myself to take a PPIs for a long time, as just doing lifestyle changes will make me too anxious. I feel for you Alvin and I don't think I could be handling it as well as you are. Are you considering hiatal repair surgery?

Im thinking bout surgery and also the after effects of it. anyway, i have endured 5 years of anxiety with this condition. i just hope this hh doesnt get worse.

      Ashley,

Thanks for the reply! My dr has never told me that! Just went through all kinds of test! Dr told me to up my PPI from 20mg to 40 mg daily! Never mentioned any of that to me! Thanks again!!
