Advice needed please, hubby in hospital

My husband is a binge drinker (probably alcoholic ) he has drank since an early age and for years has drank until he has jaundice, lost stones in weight and been admitted to hospital when his body just can't take anymore...

This episode ended in October after drinking solidly for 5 months and he couldn't drink anymore and went cold turkey and amazingly didn't suffer his usual side effects ...

I thought things would improve and everything would settle back into normality bt unfortunately this isn't the case...he has developed an awful chesty cough, become very lethargic, rapid weight gain, confusion and very swollen tummy legs and ankles..I had taken him to docs numerous times but was fobbed off and Wednesday called 111 and was told to take him straight to A&E...he's been in hospital since on multi vitamins and diuretics but no one will discuss how bad his condition is..

I've been unable to talk to his specialist due to my my own health reasons from MS and the only info I'm getting is from him...what I would like to know if any of you can help is how far would you say his liver is damaged and what treatment a day prognosis should I expect...he also has terrible diarrhea...sorry if this is hard to make sense of but my MS has flared up and I'm struggling myself

Any ideas would expect great fully received thank you

Why can't the doc see he needs rehab and get him thru this, then put him on craving blocker meds.a shot of Vivitrol or whatever is approved there.  He in the hospital time to do this so when he returns home he may have learned that meds can help control the cravings for alcohol. Other wise he will double his drinking.

He falls because alcohol effects the veins and oxygen & blood flow in the legs causing the falling . Not a great excuse using meds makes him fall just excuse to drink. Let's be honest here he needs professional help he's in the hospital. Push push and fight for him. He is suffering and cannot stop on his own. He will only put himself thru this again and I do feel for the family. My heart goes out to them. This is such a terrible disease. AUD is like a tsunami rushing thru the family wiping out everthing in its path. Those who make it to sobriety deserve a better happier life.

Because this is the UK and I believe you are in the US, so it is like comparing apples and oranges.

If only it was that simple Hope! Never mind getting medication, finding a dr is hard enough at times. At the weekend, no discharge papers and no dr willing to prescribe.

Things across the pond are obviously very different. We don't have communication between different departments.

At least that's how it feels

      Take care
