Advice on dealing with burst genital blisters?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I was only diagnosed with herpes yesterday, so far I'm dealing with it well however I am coming to the end of my outbreak my gp said and all my blisters have burst and I am now in excruciating pain. I haven't done the toilet in 2 days because the pain is bad, it hurts when I try to cleanse the area and I don't know how to speed up the healing process so I can go back to normal. Sitting down is sore, walking is sore and I'm struggling to handle the pain now. Any advice would be great thanks.

First outbreak is always the worst one. I promise the rest won't be nearly this bad. When I got my first one I'd scream in pain every time I had to pee and I was terrified to go to the toilet. The doctor gave me an anaesthetic gel but even putting that on just burnt. The only relief really is to wear nothing, stick your bottom on a pillow with your legs open and let the air get to it to dry them out. Take painkillers obviously, but you're just going to have to ride this one through. Take your aciclovir and just wait for them to heal up.

Thank you, I feel so much better that I'm not the only one who has felt this pain!! How long do you think until they will heal, days/weeks? sad

Mine was horrendous for about 4 days, after a week I could wipe again comfortably.

I would practically faint from the pain when I had to go pee in the morning so I used a squirt bottle while peeing, filled with warm water. Used it each time I peed and used a blow dryer afterwards. That's about it and just waited to get over the outbreak.

Mine was prob done from start to finish in 10-14 days. Then I got my period right after. I'm on suppressive therapy right now taking one Valtrex a day as per my dr since I am in a relationship. I also take Vitamin C and a B complex. Hoping I don't ever get an outbreak ever again....wishful thinking I guess.

You're lucky if you've only ever had one outbreak! I've had one every week since I was diagnosed in 2015. To be honest they are nowhere near like my first one and I promise you if you do have one again it won't be like that first time.

I tried so hard to just take 7 day courses or try and control it naturally/ in a herbal way. But I've given up now and decided for my sex life ( which has been pretty sh*t since I was diagnosed ) I need to try and take suppressants so me and my partner can be intimate more regularly

Drink lots of water and don't hold in your pee. Concentrated urine burns. Diluted urine is much more bearable. Pour water down below while you pee. It helps. Use topical lidocaine and oral paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain relief. Soak your genitals in a tub of Epsom salts and warm water once or twice a day. Supposed to be soothing and helps speed up drying/healing.

I really don't recommend topical lidocaine, it is incredibly painful when you put it on and doesn't make much different.

It works for others, so it depends on the individual. If the cream base is mixed with alcohol, then that might cause more stinging. Main thing is that lidocaine is specifically a numbing agent.

Forgot to add that zinc oxide cream can help soothe and dry the sores, too.

Yes. Zinc is good for the skin and against herpes, and the cream also acts as a barrier.

Primarily, but the same can be used for recurrences if desired or necessary.
