Hey,I don't know much about St. John's Wort but like you I research and it has popped up on so many anxiety and depression sites. All I know is you must be careful because it can't be taken alongside certain medications. I wish I could try it but can't for those reasons : (

I think the best thing is to speak to your Doc, even if it is about natural remedies, and just discuss where you are at and your goals.

Depression needs to be addressed on many planes. You need proper, balanced diet. Regular exercise which creates endorphins that make you feel better. Various 'coping skills' which I'm sure you've read about on the internet. Therap and finally medication. If you have genuine clinical depression I doubt any 'natural remedy' would be sufficient to make you feel better, because clinical depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain.

I have not tried St. John's Wort but I have heard that it's somewhat effective for depression. You can give it a try and report-out to the forum, I'm sure we'd all be interested. I don't like being dependent on medication, but I suffered with depression from the time I was 11-12 until I was 38, when I finally was diagnosed and put on Paxil (20 mg/day). That really made a difference, so I'm sure my depression is brain chemistry based.

I don't like medication, but the new SSRI type drugs are really focused on just depression/anxiety and they don't leave you feeling 'dopey' like the old anti-depressive drugs did. I could not function in my job as a Research Engineer on the old medication, but I have no problems with Paxil-and I have been on it for over 25 years.

    Good luck!
