Advice please - Contraceptive pill (Levlen)

I am about to start Levlen ED contraception pill and recently was told by someone I know it can cause blood clots. Does anyone know anything about this or is it safe for me to start it? I fly regularly but they aren’t long flights, with the longest being around 1.5-2 hours smile

    Hi Vicki,

From what I know about these contraceptives, they all have a low chance of creating blood clots, specificly condition name as VTE (Venous Thrombo Embolism). However, the chance of getting this is only approximately 0.0008%/ year.

So unless you have predisposed risk for VTE such as you had VTE in the past, or  some kind of stroke, or if you are over 35 years old and smoke 1, 2 pack of cigarettes a day, it SHOULD BE FINE to take Levlen.

For sitting on the flight 1.5-2h, i feel like it's pretty much the same amount that anyone would be sitting everyday xD. So unless if you're bedridden, which would increase your chance of getting VTE. Sitting for short time in the airplane should not be too worrisome.
