Advice please for diverticulitis recovery

Posted , 3 users are following.

Just finished some antibiotics yesterday (co-amoxiclav, 5 days) for presumed diverticulitis. some improvement of left sided pain within a day or so of starting the antibiotics, and now pain is much less and no longer constant, can definitely feel its dropped to more of an ache that is most pronounced when my tummy is errr active! Have been eating quite small amounts of plain food although on Saturday was worried I was getting constipated so had baked beans... and now regretting that as it has tipped things the other way and the ache is quite pronounced. So I've stumbled across this forum in efforts to educate myself... help!

Looks like I should be avoiding fibre at the moment - is that right? For how long? How do i stop myself getting constipated during that time? Should i take probiotics or will that make me all gassy and make the pain worse? I have so many questions!! Would really appreciate any advice right now... thank you!

    Hi,

I hope you are feeling better. I just had my first attack 4 days ago. Still taking antibiotics. I am scared to eat and unsure what to do about bathroom use. One thing I have read is to ease back into fiber slowly and stay away from nut, seeds, beans, alcohol, and red meat. Try what's called the FODMAP diet and keep a food journal to see what works and what doesn't. I hope this helps.
