Advice please. I can't stand this anymore!

I am now in week 9 of this condition. It started out as a sore right butt pain that crept into my right thigh (just the back). I had had this feeling back when I was 25, but it only lasted a week. So...being a google dr. I researched my pain and guessed Sciatica. It seemed like most people that suffer Sciatica just sucked it up for 5-6 weeks and it resolved itself. Mine is just getting worse! It now goes from my lower right back all the way to my ankle. The pain is so intense that my brain has shut off my leg twice now, and caused me to fall. I then lay on the floor, and not unlike the old commercial, I've fallen and I can't get up. There is no way to roll over, bend my back, rotate my hip, that isn't excruciating. The pain is so bad when I first wake up that I can't walk. I stand beside my bed (after the 10 minute struggle to get out of bed) almost in tears, unable to put weight on my right leg. Looking in a mirror when my pain is at its worse, my hips look displaced. Right hip looking about 4-5 inches higher than my left. My upper body looks shifted to the left...as if I've been broken in the middle and put back together wrong. I have seen my dr. Had an X-ray that showed nothing, and am now waiting for the results of my MRI. Dr. has me on Gabapentin. 300mg twice daily, but it's not helping (or if it is, I can't imagine how bad this pain would be). Once I'm up and walking for 1/2 hour, things settle down. The pain is still there but becomes a 3/10. The act of standing up is intense pain. The act of sitting down is intense pain. Pain is bad after about 7pm. No comfortable position to sleep in. My wife tells me I pain moan durning the night when I change positions while sleeping. Coughing and sneezing is like getting stabbed in butt...it even hurts to pass gas! Stretching and walking for excessive and relieve...not working. Stretching makes it worse. Everyone keeps telling me to do core strengthening, and stretch...but I get no relief from the pain, I can't get into the stretch positions, and if I do...it just hurts more afterwards. I am at my limit! I can't stand this! I'm a 36 year old male that has been darn near reduced to tears by the pain and frustration of this! I walk like I'm 80! I can't drive, because I can't get in my vehicle, or am afraid that I won't be able to brake due to pain! Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Thank you in advance for reading!

Day 1 of Physio...told to do the 3 stretches im already doing. At least it didn't cost me $100 to hear that...oh wait...it did rolleyes

Cortizone injections have been scheduled. I go this Monday, and the 27th. Here's hoping they mask the pain enough to do my stretches and core strengthening.

Thankfully, my hip is fine. I can't imagine the pain it must be to suffer that at the same time as this.

Hats off to you for dealing with that

...and yes, lol. Perc is my slang term for Percocet. It's an acetaminophen based opioid. I take that on the days when the pain is Everywhere. When my opposite muscles are sore from limping, and my back is all tense, and just a general soreness everywhere.

It's unlikely re wheelchair. Because it took 3 years to diagnose what was wrong with my hips the synovitis and whatever else was wrong got so bad my hips were very unstable. Now when I put weight on them they ache terribly. I also have advanced osteoporosis, my risks of falls is high and ppl don't see me in public.

Yeah I had my hamstrung injection a couple of days ago so have had to take endone for that pain. Makes me sleepy so once the worst if it is over I'll go back to codeine. My ankle is quite bad at the moment. It got fractured and torn when my hip was paritally dislocating and doing dystonic spasms due to sciatic nerve damage. My ankle has been operated on but now it has a lot of scar tissue 😁

Yeah was terrible. I had the odd panic attack etc cause it was all taking so long.

That's good re injection. Good luck with it!! They'll go through everything with you. I had transforminal epidural nerve blocks under sedation. Two lots, four injections in total.

I'll tell you all about yesterdays trials later. I feel SO sorry for you being in a wheel chair.I feel for you, it's difficult to deal with life having pain and not being able to move around.  I don't even consider operating because Spine operations  have a very high incidence of failure.l  I'll do anything to avoid it. All my treatment is private and I'm willing to consider anything. I'll tell more later got to cook lunch now so I can take the Celebrex which here is called Celebra. I suppose relief is going to be temporary and have to go for a walk , because I've found out that the less you move, the worse it all gets! Do you do Physiotherapy atall?

Hi, yes I do hydrotherapy. I was in rehab hospitals four times last year so lots of physio. Yeah I can understand re not wanting surgery. Moving attuned is definitely the one things.

Well, Sunday morning and after taking the Celebrex, and Lyrica, & 5mgs of Cloridate of Ciclobenzaprine(Mirtax) Ache. at night, makes you sleepy. I seem to have improved. I know the drugs are only temporary relief. My Doc. of 25 yrs is slightly mad. BUt he actually cares, which is rare nowadays. Brazil. So Friday I started having Ozone Gaz injections , in the Acupuncture spots. Hurt a bit, not much, I'm going to have four sessions of this. What concerns me a bit is that I won'y knbow if it's the Ozone that's making me better or the drugs. Becasue obviously the drugs are going to last about two months. The Lyrica costs a fortune. Got Valium too, which Doc says gives one Alzheimer. My Dad took it from the day it appeared and kept his lucidity until he died, like the Prussian Ideal!

I could barely walk on Friday, The Doc made me do some simple exercises in front of him and I could barley lift uo my right leg. He wanted me to do Marching movements and rotate my hips, that was OK. The hip glide is good too. So really I should go for a walk now, because all the improvement's are made in the intervals of less or NO pain. My diet includes Ozone water, I'm supposed to drink a glass at night time. My Doc made me buy the Ozonator. It's sort of difficult because he wants me to be a morning person and I'm a night owl. I get hungry later on, difficult to find the right time for meds too,  and you can only drink Ozone Water on an empty stomach. I'm curious if all this Natural therapy will work. Taking Turmeric caps too, 800mgs three times a day. Oils , too, medicinal, Sucpira. I've heard of a herb which is ant-inflamatory , called Devil's Claw. It's sold in capsules. Going to try it.

Well I'll continue the therapy, the Ozone and perhaps have an evaluation done by the University Prof. the place he does the hydrotherapy is miles away, reall drag to get there, But , like in London, transport for me, Metro, Bus, is free. Just having an accident bothers me, because in ten months of this sudden apearance of Arthritis, stenosis , Hernia and what-have-you my leg muscles have atrophyed and the rest of me too. It's been impossible to keep in shape and I'm not used to not being active , dance run and travel. Hell, pure hell. I have a friend here in a wheelchair and unless you're very rich life becomes almost impossibel. I'm working very hard on my mind to keep a positive atitude & not admit defeat! Bye for now.

Wow!!! Between you two, and my newly found "Google Doctor Degree", I'm becoming quite the expert in this topic.

Questions: Am I supposed to continue the medications the day of (and days proceeding) the injections? My physio appt is the day after my first injection. Should I delay the physio appt? Would i benifit more from aquatic therapy than physio?

Yes I delay the physio for a few days to a week to give injections time to work. Are you having them under sedation or awake under local?

I'd suggest ringing your dr and asking re meds. Hydrotherapy was great for me, it's pretty safe and takes the weight off your spine while you do your exercises. When you get out of the pool you might feel very sore and tired so take it easy if you decide to try it post injections. It's great for muscle spasms as a proper hydro pool should be about it 30-33 degrees Celsius. Both therapies together can with well.

Hi, I just wondered how your getting on now, are you feeling better?

Well, I woke up the day after my Ozone injections done in the Acupuncure points PAIN FREE! The Hydrotherapy is marvelous and it comes under the heading of Physiotherapy as well. All exercises done with the supervision of a trained person is callled physiotherapy, whether in water or out of water. Having said that , my pains come back, not as bad but I'm being weaned off Lyrica which all the specialists say kills your brain cells. So after spending an arm & a leg they're no damn good. I hope you're doing well and won't need to operate. It does help to take a muscle relaxer at night to diminish the pain. I was taking Targiflex, they all seem to have FLEX in the name and can be bought without prescription here and normally make one sleepy , although I got Valium to help sleep. I hope you're improving, I'm now hopeful, but it's been a year since this started for me. I've had every test there is now , so I know what's wrong. The drugs all have different effects on different people, nothing seems to be the rule. Everyone recats differently. Bye for now.
