Advice please..... Is this ibs

Hey everyone! I have recently joined the group as I am at my wits end.

i have had bowel problems for nearly 12 years now, and have had a colonscopy 3 years ago which was clear accept for diverticulitis diease.

as the past 3 months it has really got bad I suffer with constipation, pellet like stools and maybe don't go to the toilet for 4 days at a time. Then when I do get my stools are little bits, soft and light brown - yesterday I went 5 times.i always have the feeling of needing to go and wind which can be mucus.

The worst part is the pain, it's always across my lower pelvic area, it's cramping, annoying and sore. I possibly think this is from straining too much to be honest. I am feeling low at the minute as I am worried it is something more serious. I have another consultant apt on Wednesday but not holding much hope as I never seem to get anywhere at all. I suffer aniexty which doesn't help too abd the other night came across a picture of a colon cancer bowel movement looked exactly like mine do. Only thing I not panicking is I know it can take bowel cancer 10 years plus to formation and I had my colonscopy 3 years ago.

thanks for reading all advice is greatly welcomed x

    Hiya,

This sounds very similar to what I have been experiencing. Going through stages of constantly being constipated, with lower abdominal pains and sore stomach. I have been backwards and forwards to the doctors god knows how many times and they have told me it's IBS, however I am not convinced.

I have been given laxido to help go the toilet and mebervine for ibs they do help for a small amount of time but then it comes back and I'm back to the start 😞.

I'm going back to see my doctor again next Wednesday x

Oh Sarah it's awful, it just takes over everything.

is you pain very low down in your pelvic area? This scares me but apt your bowel goes around all these organs. I also suffer right sight low abdomen pain too. It can be quite sharp. I do think I may have coltis as it runs in my family too but haven't been diagnosed as yet.

Yep I get pain very low down and all in my lower back too.

What is colitis? I am convinced it's not ibs that I have. If I get no answers on Wednesday I'm going to ask to be referred to go private.

I'm glad I'm not alone in all this, I thought it was just me!! X

I have had IBS for the last 20 yrs, it's a complete nightmare. I have the opposite to you, my stools are runny, so always have to know where the Loos are when I'm out. The worst is the cramping pain, have had loads of medicines, to no avail. The only one thing I have learned is that stress can bring it on. It can make you feel very sick as well. I was sure I had Cancer, the Colonoscopy proved otherwise, but it makes you very depressed as there is guess work regarding treatments, and feeling anxious makes it worse. I was told to see if there were any triggers regarding food etc.......for me Tea and Coffee are a no no if I'm going out.. Try not to worry, I have had it for so long, and thinking I had Cancer, but I realise if I had, after all this time, I wouldn't be here! Cheer up, try and not let it get you down, always here if you want to chat.

    Take care.X

Hi Catherine, thank you for your reply.

yes it's nasty isn't it but we just have to get up and get on!

tea can set me off too but I now enjoy fennel tea which is supposed to be calming for the digestive system.

im not worrying anymore I'm going to settle my mind and maybe that,ll settle my stomach too xx

Hi, your not alone. This Ibs is not always the same symptoms for all And has no mercy for how it treats us. I find it hard to understand what is what's my diverticulitis has symptoms same as ibs. I went on fodmap diet on consultants recommendation. At yes it has help. Not cured it all but eased it up. The pain you described could that be from inflammation of your diverticulitus, mine is e trend and pouches from start to finish on colon. Might be worth asking about.

I have gallstones and am waiting to have my gallbladder removed. Before I was diagnosed with gallstones a GP thought it was either gallstones or IBS so obviously symptoms can be similar.

I get bad stomach cramps and pain in my right side.

Also a combination of constipation and dihareoa (sorry my spelling is not good) which is confusing.

I'm not going to say don't worry ofcourse you are scared

It's OK to be scared, it's what you do with that fear that is so important

Praying for you that this will settle down

    Kepp in touch

    Sarah

Have you thought about a course of colonic irrigation? Google it and I've got a link to a good (free) book if you want it?

Hi, Sorry to read about all your problems and yes it could be IBS. You may however need another colonoscopy to confirm this. Not being funny but a lot could happen in 3 years. 12 years is a long time to be having problems. Make sure you have a few notes (pointers) to remind you what you want to say to the consultant. It could just turn out to be severe constipation aggravated by anxiety. See what happens Wednesday and let us know. Good Luck.
