Hi Victoria, I'm sorry to hear of your struggles with bend and totally relate. I am 11 weeks out of surgery for tkr and just had an MUA last week as my bend was stuck at 60 degrees.
?It is now about 85 degrees but still very swollen and sore and I'm doing intense physio boot camp totry and get it to the 95 degrees they got under anaesthetic as then the surgeon thinks I can work on it to continue improving.
?I cannot say what you should do, but I would not think they would be able to get enough improvement from forcing a bend without anaesthetic and I'd worry they might damage something as my surgeon who did the knee did the MUA and explained the risks, it needs a skilled person to do this without causing further trauma. But of course I cannot give advice that is just what I was informed.
?The MUA was a short procedure and I was asleep and never felt it. It was a bit sore after when they put me on the CPM machine to keep leg moving. I was soon given some pain relief and back on the ward overnight. I was sick from the morphine unfortunately, but that was just me as I'm sensitive to meds since I had my gallbladder removed last year. So. the MUA is not a bad way forward really though the physio will be very painful for a while after to try to stop the knee stiffening up.
Best wishes to you, post back how you get on xx

Hi Vicky
You've come this far - you CAN do this if they are going to put you out to bend further brilliant it may be something needs tweeking - it's a bit of a speed bump but you will get there at the end of the day for everything you have been through this glitch needs to be sorted so you can reach for that final goal. I know you've got the strength! 😊

Don't quite understand why they want to try and bend it when you are going to have a MUA, ? As you say surely better to til you have it done in hospital.?

Hi jenny,i think it's to try save me getting MUA which would be fine if my bend was say 80 but at 55 i think best way forward is MUA so il carry on with physio and exercise at home but wont see the physio who tries to bend it as it is unbearable and im just waiting on letter for pre assesment for MUA not that im looking forward to it but iv been reasured it sounds worse than it is and when you think about it have been through TKR so il get through this, never thought i'd say cant wait to get back to work and normal life lol.x

Hi Victoria
I'm a bit confused as to why your physio is going to get someone to bend your leg when you are scheduled for MUA?
I can't really advise you but please think seriously about having someone other than an Orthopaedic surgeon manipulating your knee. What qualification does this person have?
Good luck with everything, please keep us updated.
Have seen a few posts from people who have had MUA & said it wasn't as bad as they imagined.

I had a MUA as my bend was very poor. Just want to let you know I was so scared.
Went in got it done woke up and couldnt help myself bent it. I was so happy I went from about 50 to 90 and only got better.
Best of luck
Jodie
