Advice please re: protein and blood in urine

Hi all
I am hoping someone may be able to help.
About 3 months ago I developed sympthoms of a UTI, having to rush to the toilet for a wee, but when finished, feeling like I still needed to go. The doc found blood and protein so gave me anti-biotics. The test came back from the hospital as no infection found and the anti-biotics didn't do any good. The same thing happened 3 weeks later... same symphoms, same results but still no infection found.
I was referred to the hospital for a ultrasound and x-ray on my kidneys, blood tests and a cystoscopy. All came back normal but the doctor was very concerned about the amount of protein I was losing and presence of blood still in urine so has referred me to a kidney specialist.
I am now worrying as no idea what to expect, could I have kidney disease? Has anyone else had similar symptoms?

I know this will sound silly but try not to worry. Have a normal healthy diet and try to do what the specialist asks of you. Things do go wrong from time to time and usually kidney injuries correct themselves like any other part of the body.
You are not in hospital it's hopefully under control, kidney conditions are treated very seriously. Hope you will soon be feeling better ?

Thank you for your reply. I am trying my hardest not to worry but it's the waiting and not knowing. I have always been so heathly and so has come as a shock. I will try to eat more healthily and to drink plenty of water and that's one thing I know I'm not doing enough of. Thanks again

Now, I am not a doctor and have no medical background apart from one medical OU course. Beware these sites are public and con merchants are anxious to sell products to unsuspecting victims. Sorry...... but I have experienced this personally so don't hand out personal details.
A normal water intake may well be best. 1 to 2.5 litres per day. Don't hesitate to pester your G.P.s, the crying baby gets the milk.
(So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly about 13 cups (3 liters) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is about 9 cups (2.2 liters) of total beverages a day. Source, Mayo clinic) Too much may well stress your system. The doctor will know and will no doubt advise you.
In 2014 I was on Dialysis for almost 3, months. Two of them in a major teaching hospital, it is a difficult life, but I did as I was told.
I had never had a days illness in my life but I have now been drug free for over six months and off dialysis for almost two years.
Please don't be afraid, chin -up girl chances are you will be fine. E

Thank you for the advice about this site.
Glad to hear that you have been drug free and off dialysis for almost 2 years. If you don't mind me asking, how did you discover your kidney problem and when?
As for the water intake, when I had my cystoscopy, the doctor found a lot of 'debris' in my bladder and said it was because I wasn't drinking enough water, hence why now I am trying to drink more. At the moment I am drinking about 3 litres.
Thank you again for your help

Eric is right. Lots of things in our bodies go wrong from time to time and can be put right or right themselves and kidney problems are always taken seriously - just in case they don't put themselves right. You have had all the right investigations. If anything is wrong, it will be found. My own belief is that this is a warning: if, in the future similar things occur - don't ignore them, get them checked out, just in case.
Hope it will all disappear this time and you will be OK.

Dear Sylvia,
Well this was in 2014, but I hadn't felt well for many years. I had really high blood pressure. about 180/120 even on medication. Suddenly I had vomitting and serious leg pain that would not go away . Tried going to GPs, gave huge box of Iprobufen. Ex girlfriend called over and said, throw those and get back to GPs Different GP sent me to local hospital for tests admitted me saying I was ill. No better, so two weeks later ended -up in kidney unit with DVT and no working kidneys. Three months on Dialysis and a year on steroids. I'm on medication for blood pressure but nothing else. Specialist said , "What I don't understand is why you didn't ask to see a specialist?" I answered that I depended on the G.P.s He said, well they wouldn't know would they ! So there you have the whole sad story. You have done the right thing to get to the hospital. So keep calm and an ordinary diet and you will be better soon.

Thank you for your story Eric. I am glad to hear you are doing well now
As I said to Sonia above, I had exactly the same symptons about 2 and a half years ago but my GP at the time did not send me for further investigation for the blood and protein in my urine as no infection was found, I also had symptoms similar to what I am experiencing now. I think it really does depend on what doctor you see as to what is done.
