Advice regarding recovery Colon Resection

Posted , 1 user is following.

I'm 4 weeks post op Colon Resection due to a puncture and abcess from diverticulitis. I was fortunate not to need a stoma.

I have had IBS-C for decades but didn't know about the diverticulosis until hospitalized. My surgeon's office does not seem concerned that I'm unable to have more of a bowel movement than a few round pellets every few days. I was advised that I could eat a normal diet but I have a tremendous amount of pain and pressure due to the constipation.

I'm only advised to take a stool softener and drink mineral oil (which has caused skin issues) but it doesn't really help.

Could someone tell me if this is "normal" and how they dealt with it? Thank you!
