Advice sought about a couple of side effects please

Posted , 5 users are following.

As a Citralopram user of two weeks I would like to thank forum members for their comments and understand the general advice to stick with it for 4-6 weeks to feel the full effect.

In the meantime most side effects are not a problem, but I am very concerned about the sexual dysfunction and possible weight gain. I was reluctant to see my GP for over 20 years but did visit after a particularly disturbed suicidal spell. Was referred to the NHS mental health service and am now getting therapy as well as Cit. I really want to crack my long term depression and anxiety, but cannot see any prospect of feeling normal if I am going to be fat and impotent!

I would welcome thoughts on whether these side effects are likely to persist or not please. FYI, I am male

Many thanks

What you describe are common side effects. Many men get sexual dysfunction such as delayed orgasm - and many women too. Weight gain can also be a problem but doesn't affect too many people. They are unlikely to persist but, if they do, talk to your GP. He/she ought to be well aware of the side effects and suggest ways to overcome them.

    Hi

I suffer from sexual dysfunction. I am going back to my g.p this week so maybe he will be able to help. I have not had a problem with weight gain. My appetite can be a bit erratic though, some days i could eat for england and others i don't seem to want to eat at all.

The main thing is to stick with it and if you are worried in any way talk to your g.p.

I suffer from sexual dysfunction as well but mine is i last a lot longer and need more stimulation to \"get there\".

my wife is very understnading about it and what i do is to try and ignore whats going on \"down there\" and relax about it i find i get almost as much staifation when she cums, but when i do cum its much stronger for me its worth the wait for it.

so dont worry about it espesily if you have a understanding partner :D

Im just on 4 weeks in on Citalopram, and have noticed that I take much longer to orgasm, if at all, much to the delight of my wife. I suppose every cloud has a silver lining. I used to \"get there\" far too early, and now its not a problem.
