Advice thoughts please? Waiting for referral, left side pain :(

Hello smile

I am new here and after ....I don't know really just some friendly ears as am hugely fed up and keep talking to people about bowels isn't the best topic of conversation rolleyes

I will try and cut long story short, I've had 'ibs' for long time. Cramps when eating certain foods etc etc nothing too problematic....it's started getting more problematic a couple years ago where the cramps were getting more and the foods I could eat less.

Then I had my daughter 9 months ago.......and it's been a NIGHTMARE

anything I ate either cramps or gas or back and forward to toilet all day/night the foods I have been able to eat have dwindled to nothing basically. It's either one extreme or other never just normal, buscopan, mebreverie, god knows how many different types or laxatives later nothing's really worked

Now the real problem that going on now.....about 2 weeks ago after long period of not hardly going went back to drs after hadn't been at all for 6 days...more laxatives......they did get me going BUT still rock hard and black....then after 2 days of this they went loose and flat (quite strange) sorry I k ow TMI rolleyes and green ish with black tiny spots when I wiped rolleyes

I'd been getting this weird pulsating feeling to the left side..kind of middle side but it didnt hurt...until the dr pushed it! He said there was a stool stuck and so that's when I was given movicol and then the black stools etc followed that week. But then over about 2 weeks the side pain has got worse. I can feel a pressure constantly with intermittent stabbing pains. Feel constantly nauseous, been sick and can't eat anything apart from the odd peice of toast.

I went to a and e yesterday after crying in agony after the whole weekend was spent in pain which at one point went all under my ribs and up my back.

Side is so painful with a constant gurgling, clonking, rumbling which at one point yesterday literally vibrated the whole left side.

A and e said they couldn't refer me as unless I was bleeding profusely it wasnt an emergency so I'd have to go to drs today and get referral. I've been the drs today who said that as rubbish and he could have done it but b. he sent me home and said non emergency if he tried to admit me now they prob wouldn't as I've been sent home yest and that there may be some inflammation ( I see may be as not an option, he hard,y had to touch it for me to shoot and I feel like there's a fist in my side!) but all he can do now is out through as emergency referral but will be about 2 weeks!!

I could actually cry. I'm in pain, I haven't been toilet really in 4 days again. He gave me mebreverine for pain but I already have this and it doesn't work for this tryoe I pain I have which is more sharp and full than the wavy cramps you get with ibs I feel sick to my tummy, dizzy at times, I can't eat and I'm looking after my 9 month baby!! And I've got to wait 2-3 weeks?!

I'm not sure what's going on but I def don't feel that it's ibs and there's clearly something wrong

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thank you in advance and sorry for the rant x

Hi Ktann, Please ask your GP for IBD marker tests- these can include stool samples to test for helicobacter and c difficile etc and blood tests for IBD. Then at least when you are referred some things will already be ruled out and they are closer to a diagnosis. Do you have painful joints? Are you chronically tired?

I've had right sided symptoms for years and only recently did an experienced GP put two and two together regarding my painful arthritis and my bowel disease. I think the waiting for a diagnosis is the worst time. For me a diagnosis will mean "right, so that's what it is. Now lets get on with treating it.". I must admit I'll take some pleasure in seeing one particular GP's face when he realises HE missed the fun of diagnosing me (he said no to tests even though I presented with the same signs and symptoms 13 months ago).

I've found I've had to become pushy. What I do is list (and print out) everything wrong with me- even if it's eye pain, mouth ulcers...anything- and I take it to the GP or consultant, discuss the list and leave it with them. That 10 minutes is precious to me and I'm not really concerned about the work he or she then has to do- it's their job! I sound bolshy, but I'm a softie really!

    Thanks Karen!

I always come away from drs not saying half of what i wanted because i end up feeling like a pain keep going back!

I have an emergency blood test last week as when went bck to gp he could hardly touch that side without me going through the roof! but the inflammation markers i was told were 'satisfactory' ive been refferred for a colonoscopy which will take about 3 weeks.

The shard pain has tapered off now but theres still a constant fullness/ pressure feeling with gurgling and popping in the same place on left side and is till feel sick after eating sad

like you i would feel the same about a diagnosis of some sort, my bigger worry is them going 'its all fine' and just having to live like this!!

i get painful joints in the morning and have tmj which is hugely playing up at the moment. and yes beyond tired but have also had low thyroid so that could be put on that...

hopefully something will come aboutat the colonoscopy and it can be dealt with...for a start if it doesnt i will a bag of bones as cant eat!

Hi Ktann, to me the nausea after eating, weight loss, pain and noises sound like IBD. There are loads of "extra intestinal" symptoms like joint pain and chronic tiredness (with vitamin D deficiency and anaemia). I think thyroid deficiency is part of an autoimmune response- as is IBD. Is there history of IBS or arthritis in your family? Hope the colonoscopy does show up what condition you have. Good luck!
