I had the same op 6 weeks ago. I'm 40 and had for endometriosis. Had mine done by laparoscopy. Looking back now. I'm amazed how well it went and I'm back to full health now albeit in menopause. Just ask away with all your concerns as I did the same and found this site great to get non medical side of things.

    Hi

I had a hysterectomy but kept ovaries as they were healthy. Had a bikini line incision. I am nearly 11 weeks post op still get tired but apart from

that feel the best I have felt in years, so nice not having to worry about

periods. Best advice I could give based on my own experience take your time to recover, don't rush to do things let others help. It is a big op, I

was told I should be able to go back to work after 8 weeks ( have a manual job ) but still off ,planning to go back after week 12. ( self employed with a very understanding husband ) Have found recovery quiet hard going more from worry of doing something I shouldn't. Pain hasn't been an issue after the first 10 days. Listen to what your body tells you. We all recover at different rates, be kind to yourself.

Also big knickers after op as tummy was very swollen and tender. Peppermint tea for wind was a God send as that was painful. Cushion for your tmmy for journey home to stop seatbeat from pressing on tummy.

    Best wishes

    Claire

Trivial but unless you going private and have op time. Take something like magazines etc as I had to be in at 745 but turned out to be last on list and didn't go down til 4pm it was a long wait !! Nightee not pj's as will have catheter in for a while. I came back to ward at 9pm and was discharged next morning. Was really lucky as only took pain killers whilst in didn't need them from day 2. I made mistake of feeling so well at 2 weeks that I cleaned bathroom and had heavy bleed so even if you feel good afterwards don't overdo it. I went back to work at 6 weeks but I think the loss of ovaries was worse than having the actual op. Are you able to/want to take hrt?

As I think of things that helped I'll let you know. Have you had op before. Do you want to know what that bit was like for me?

I had the same op just over 4 wks ago because they found cancer cells got the all clear last monday.Didnt have any trouble having op and no pain killers after the first night , I was in 5 days.A lot of people have trouble with going the toilet afterwards but I was ok. I took oil of peppermint capsules 1 3x day for wind and as froggy says take nightdresses not pj's and dont be in a hurry to get back to normal you will only set yourself back and take longer. Good lu k let us knox how you get on ....Sue

I had a total hysterectomy, they took everything, after finding a large mass in my stomach and was told " whatever it is must come out" it was eventuall found to be a large cyst that had wrapped around my ovary 3 times. I have a large scar down the middle from belly button to pubic bone. BUT I can honestly say I was so relieved to be given all clear, the scar doesn't worry me at all. I did find after the op there is no one to talk too and no one to ask any questions too. This site helped me so much. If you have any questions please ask. All the best Debs x

Hi Jo. I am three weeks post op now, and thankfully all seems to be going ok. I had the same op as you will be having. The fear is always worse than the actual event. But afterwards, you MUST do as you are told, and not lift, push, or pull. Don't lift anything heavier than a kettle with a couple of cups of water in it. Think before you do anything, and move carefully. But feel free to start walking, and increase walking a little each day, to speed up the healing process. Everyone heals at a different rate, so don't worry if you take a little longer than others. It's really not worth rushing.
