Advise on questions for doctors

I’ve been going back and forth to the hospital with “typical” biliary colic pain. They keep telling me the same thing, your bloods are fine and you have no stones. ( I did end up in hospital with a blockage caused by a stone from being pregnant). So I have had stones in the past just none now. The pain I get now is everyday, I get nausea everyday too. I’m struggling to eat because of the nausea and pain. I’ve now stared having acid reflux and bloating with it all so struggling to eat anything of normal size. I’ve lost about 2 and a half stone in a few months.  They have done mrcp, ultrasound and a HIDA test. I’m going today for the results. I’m just wondering if the HIDA test comes back clear is there any other tests they can do? Or is there any questions I need to be asking. They took my bloods a few months ago and they all came back too

Hi Samantha, I know it sounds weird but fingers crossed they find something on your hida scan so at least you have an answer. I was the same I had all these tests and my bloods were ok but the pain was getting worse, then finally the hida scan came back and my gallbladder wasn't working correctly.

Have they done a CT scan as that may show hidden stones? Also an endoscopy as you may have problems with your stomach and they should do biopsies to check for things like H.pylori which my sister in law had, also they'll check for crohns and diverticulitis? If they haven't done this yet it would be worth them doing.

Let me know how you get on.

I agree with Katherine. Although in my case I never had a single stone, I feel they overlook non stone gallbladder issues A LOT. positive murphys sign was all I had, jaundice, fever, and vomiting. Nothin ever showed on my imaging except my HIDA, but they still would not give me the surgery. However you will want to be sure and have the upper scope, to make sure you don't have ulcers, or other gastric issues. Hopefully though your hida scan will be telling and wishing you the best of luck.

I totally agree with this. The surgeon has said that he wants to remove it due to everything pointing to that. So I feel like for once I’ve been listening too but it actually hasn’t happened yet so I feel anxious they might change their mind. I just feel like doctors don’t think outside the box. And if the results aren’t right I front of them they won’t say it is something even if you have every symptom you can think of

How did you get on with your results? I had 3 ultrasounds. First one showed small stones, second they couldn’t positively identify them but had a very distended gallbladder and third they think they saw small stones. Got sent for the HIDA scan and it showed it wasn’t functioning properly. The consultant still wasn’t convinced it was gallbladder but agreed to put me on list for surgery. 2 days later I ended up admitted to hospital again and got the gallbladder out a week later whilst still in hospital. The surgeon said there propably was lots of stones but they just couldn’t see them on the ultrasound. And my GP had said the smaller stones usually cause a lot more problems as well. Let us know how you get on xx

They said everything is fine apparently even tho my gallbladder was still full of the radioactive dye. The surgeon still wants to remove my gallbladder as all the symptoms are pointing to it. I have to go to aintree (I live on the Isle of Man) they want to make sure i haven’t got a narrowed valve coming off my gallbladder and then will remove it. I feel like they don’t take this serious at all. I looked over the surgeons shoulder while he was looking at my notes and all of my bloods had liver enzymes and electrolytes in bold red with explanation marks on to point to a problem but they always told me it was all fine so I’m a little confused as to why. I just hope all this is ended soon.
