Advised to change from Cit on a Pm to AM any advice??

Hiya

Been on 20mg cit for just over 7 weeks and had every side effect under the sun!

Went to see my GP yesterday for a routine checkup etc.. and she advised me that I shouldn't still be feeling grotty but be more on a level. In fact she said if I hadn't been going on holiday she would start to wean me off them and try something else. To be honest I don't want to go through anything like that again. So she suggested moving my cit from taking it on an evening to a morning to see if this changes.

Any thoughts on this guys? Anyone seen an improvement taking at different times etc...

Thanks in advance

Liz xx

Hi I started Citalopram in the evenings and a nurse friend of mine said mornings are better, also spoke to GP on Mon and he said the same, mornings are better. I have tried this and find it better thou first couple of hours are the worse I am okay for most of the day after. Still getting side effects like upset stomach in the mornings and some insomnia but anxiety is less now. I do take my meds about 7 am as i am awake. Try it and see if you feel better. Good luck.

Thanks for replying! I've taken them this morning about half 8, time will tell I suppose!

How long have you been taking cit?

It may take a couple of days from changing from night to morning. I am into my 4th week and I went from 20mg to 10mg on Monday as i felt that the side effects were too strong on GP's advice. Side effects are less now, my appetite has come back, sleeping about 5 hours now, before it was no sleep or just a couple of hours. Every one Is different. Speak to your GP if your still concerned, you can ask surgery to ask GP to call you back if you cannot get an appointment. Hope you start feeling better soon.

    Hi Liz

I feel your pain. My GP also is giving me a few more weeks then wants to wean me off and start something else. My issue is the ongoing insomnia. Most nights I get 2-3 hours or nothing at all. I tried evenings but it just made it worse but plenty of folk seem to do absolutely fine in the evenings, it's an individual thing. I really don't want to try something else for the same reason as you, now that the Cit is making me feel so much better I can't bear to go backwards. I'm going on holiday in August so despite her wanting me to change I'm going to make her give me another month as I don't want to suffer side effects during this time. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that the sleep comes back.

Yep, she said to me if I hadn't been going away she would wean me off them! My face dropped :-( God I don't think I could cope with all that again. She mentioned Sertaline?! Or something like that.

It's funny because when I take my meds on a night, I feel great no anxiety, sleep well, no nausea etc.. But still feel like death ona morning. So I've taken one this morning at 8.30 and I still feel rubbish, so it makes me think that the morning thing is my anxiety playing tricks on me gggrrr!

I'm finding this week tough. Although I was surprised about my DR saying to change me, 7 weeks is not long really is it??

Yes my GP also mentioned Sertraline to me also. I was quite suprised when she mentioned changing me after 4 weeks. But she seemed pretty confident that the insomnia was not a side effect that was going to go. Like you week 7 and still struggling with that, I still live in hope i can prove her wrong. I think it might still be your morning anxiety Liz I reallly do, you know yourself it can give you every symptom under the sun.

This week is the first week I have experienced no morning anxiety, it's been a long time coming. So hopefully within the next week or so you'll be the same.

      Hugs xx

After 10 weeks of side effects my Dr changed me. Said its no pointtrying to cure one problem and creating another. There are lots of anti-d's out there and people react in different ways to them, so don't fear moving on to another

    Hi!

I take my Cit in the morning, but actually used to take it at night. I found the side effects to be worse when I took it in the evening, such as no sleep, more anxiety, etc. I think that taking it in the morning has really helped me, even though I do still get the morning anxiety but that is just my mind playing tricks on me! It does make me a little sleepy, but I would rather be tired at work then not be able to sleep at night at all. Let us know how it goes!

Oh, and P.S. I initially started on Sertraline, and not to scare you but I had worse side effects on that medication. Obviously every SSRI is going to be different for everyone, but that is just my experience. I could not eat, sleep or calm down for the life of me on that med. Just want you to be aware!

Thanks for the replies guys. I have to say I've had the WORST anxiety ever today. I think it's because I took my 20mg tab last Nast then 20mg this morning! Yikes this is awful! Could it be that??!

How long have you been taking cit misdamwanor? My anxiety is rubbish on a morning - fed up!

I'm not going to come off this though to start all over again, no way so it's this or nothing lol!!

To be honest I think most of the side effects have probably gone but because I'm anxious I'm blaming the meds for making me feel I'll. realistically it's prob working for me.

I just hope I settle down today.

Hi Elizabeth what a nightmare like you I'm week 7 too on 20mg for 3 weeks 10mg previously I  loads better with the anxiety but still feel churned in a morning and take a while to get going. I'm still not myself and worry about what's happening in the future. I have had acupuncture twice and going again Monday this does seem to be helping even if it mind over matter I'm thinking it's helped. My GP wanted to put me on something else when I said I'd got side effects but like you I wanted the cit to work and it does take it's time I can't face another pill and new side effects etc. and to be honest the do seem it be a lot better I take cit on a night. Best of luck keep us posted Sx
