Aerosol spray in eye left with sore eye when reading

Six weeks ago when using a navy suede renovator spray outside the wind blew some in my left eye. At first I didn't have any symptons and then within the hour my eye felt a bit sore but fortunately my vision remained fine.

I have had my eye examined at the opticians. The symptons I have are my eye becomes increasingly more sore if I try and read anything, it also irritates if I repeatedly look to my left or right and I tend to wake up about 3 am every night with some degree of pain although I eventually get back to sleep. At the opticians they put some yellow dye in my eye and said everything looked fine. They advised some over the counter lubricating eye drops this was a few weeks ago and there has been no improvement.

Has anyone else had similar symptons to me and if so did there eye improve over time? Also I'm wondering if it could be a small scratch that the optician missed?
