AF, Rivaroxaban Gout?

Hi, after some advice if possible please. Ive had AF for 6mths now, been taking Bisolprolol 2.5mg & Rivaroxaban 20mg each day. Due to some horrible symptoms of severe feeling of sunburn all over my body, my gp stopped my rivaroxaban for 2wks to see if this maybe a side effect to this medication, my symptoms continued so my gp put me back on the rivaroxaban & has now currently stopped my bisoloprolol for 2wks.

?For approx.4-5 days my big toe has grown increasingly more painful, to the point I can no longer stand on my foot & continuously  hurts. Its slightly swollen/red more mainly just hurts. My gp has just told me he believes its gout... personally at the moment I don't accept this. I don't drink, don't smoke, I eat healthily & exercise. I know of work colleagues who have had this but their lifestyle/diet/drinking habits are quite extreme, as to the complete opposite to myself. I mentioned this to my gp and he said that this can be purely down to bad luck!!! & anyone can get this, I found this very strange but at the time it kept me quiet, but he handed me a gout fact printout & it states nothing like he said, & it is down to lifestyle diet etc... so I'm rather puzzled with this.

?My question is, if I do have this gout could it be due to being off my rivaroxaban for the 2wks,as it started approx. 8-9 days in of not taking this med? or is it just a coincidence? I am absolutely gutted with this, like I say I'm 42 I eat healthily hardly ever drank but for the last 12mths ive had no alcohol at all, never smoked. Everything the fact sheet states not to do/to do is what I is normal to me anyway, I'm very frustrated with this at the moment, so honestly any information/advice is truly appreciated, thankyou.

Did he do any blood tests ?  A serum uric acid test may be used to measure the amount of uric acid in your blood. A high level of uric acid is often associated with gout.

My wife has had gout a couple of time and her lifestyle is not a factor.

Hi, at the moment he has given me colchicine 500mg 3 times a day for 5 days, he wants me to wait 2wks for my blood test.

I know next to nothing about gout, apart from hearing it associated with lifestyle.  But after hearing about your wife has had this with no lifestyle connection then maybe I should trust my gp more perhaps,Thankyou for getting in touch I genuinely feel better for the reply.

My wife was in absolute agony last time she had it. She could not stand the bed clothes on her foot and I had quite a job getting her into a taxi to go to see the out of hours doctor on a Sunday. She has a history of ulcers and he insisted she took an anti inflammatory despite her protests. It worked but she ended up with a duodenal ulcer and 67 gastric ulcers.

Anti Inflammatory drugs although effective are dangerous in many ways and only for very short term use. Gout is a form of arthritis.

I hope that things improve for you. The problem with gout is that people think of the old cartoons with a florid faced military type with a big bandage on his foot. Google gout cartoons and a lot come up. It may take your mind off it for a moment.!

Absolutely, the pain is just incredible. Seems as though it can just be down to bad luck getting it...
