I ask because I want to know patient perspective and develop more effective ways to communicate and follow up any problem you have after discharge, sometimes we don´t take the time to know if there is something to improve in the daily clinical practice or after surgery care.

I've had four hip replacements. Three on the right side and one on the left. I've never had any wound drainage or any infections.

I did not have any infection, but I did have a stretched sciatic nerve which has caused me a lot of problems. Starting at the back of my thigh, calf, heel, and foot is totally numb. Yet with the numbness to my foot comes painful neuropathy. I had anterior hip replacement and after months of researching thought this was the best. As far as the hip replacement goes, perfect! During surgery my sciatic nerve was caught up in traction and stretched. One part is dead, and and I won't get it back. I am 6 months post op and still in physical therapy. Neurologist said it would take 2 years or more before I know what I will get back and that I will have some kind of deficit due to the dead part, but we won't know where that will be. Hopefully it will just be my little toe!! But with God's grace I am walking unaided, with a very noticeable limp, but I am able to perform my own personal care. I can no longer work because of the problems, my Dr will not release me to work. But that's ok, because I am 63 and I just started social security and doing fine. My husband is retired so I have lots of help. God is Good!

It's been 10 weeks since my hip replacement, my incision has healed great, no pain in hip at all, but I did get clots in my lungs after a week of my surgery, had to go back to hospital, now I'm on blood thinners, and getting ready for left hip to be replaced, hope we handle the blood clots without them coming back!

I had a great experience!! I had one in October and the other in December!! Went home next day! Hardly needed physical therapy because I’m fit which helped tremendously!!! So glad I finally did it! Hesitated because I’ve lifted in the gym all my life and was afraid I wouldn’t be able too anymore. But I’ve never felt better!!! And never stopped lifting I’m just smarter!!😊

Hello. I haven't experienced any infections, but had a hematoma near the surgical site. Had it drained twice. I swear, it felt like the size of a hard boiled egg underneath my skin. I'm 60 and two months post op TRHR (anterior). I'm happy & thankful the hematoma is gone (or at least, flatten considerably).

I am 6 weeks post op (TLHR) today and about a week and a half ago I became aware of an incision wound. I had posterior approach so wasn't aware til I felt wet discharge. I basically have a1.5cm wide X1.5cm deep hole which isn't healing. Hoping I will not need surgical debridement. We're going to see where we are at on Friday. Have been having daily cleaning and a change of dressing.

I had an issue with part of my surgical wound (in groin area) not healing like the rest of the surgical area. At first surgeon had me use a wet/dry dressing which did help but was taking a very LONG time to heal. He considered having me go back to surgery to close it but was concerned it might open up again. Instead, I had a wound pump and home health care nurse 3 times a week (to change the special dressing) and it healed very well. Issue with wound pump is that it isn't always covered by insurance.

I have been having a nurse come to my house to do dressing changes for the past week with a the nurse from the hospital I had surgery at evaluating it a few times. The wet to dry dressing with iodine strips isn't working so today they switched me to collagenase ointment which is like a chemical debridement. On Friday if there's no change they are going to send me to a wound specialist at the hospital. How long did it take for your wound to heal? It sounds like your wound area may have been bigger. Did you feel sick or have a fever? Were you on antibiotics? I am and they make me feel sick and they give me a weird taste in my mouth. I think mine is infected and I'm worried it will get to the joint. I think the hospital is worried also since they have a very low incidence of infections and I'm sure they want that to continue.

For about 4 weeks I had the wet/dry dressing with some antibiotic proactively to prevent infection. I was fortunate to not have any infection at all. Then I was using wound pump for about 2 weeks and it was just tiny bit open wound which closed very soon after that. I never had the antibiotic on an empty stomach so didn't have any sick feeling.
