Have you got a follow up appointment? Don't worry , because at least they have found what is causing your problems. Tingling and weakness are typical signs of disc degeneration.

There are various surgical procedures, to deal with a herniated disc.

Your consultant should have some answers, they won't just leave you to get on with it.

What will be done, I don't know, but possibly remove the part of the herniated disc that is pressing on your spinal cord.

It's not likely that you will be paralysed, if there were any chance of that you would have had surgery already.

    Hi Joanne,

I'm sorry to hear you are suffering so much, I know that feeling well!

    I would like to know:

Did your GP send you for your MRI?

    Have you got another appointment!

Did nobody explain your MRI to you?

Dont worry you are not going to be paralysed, they would have operated on you if that was the case.

Just had a thought, are you in USA?

    Linda

Yrs linda in usa no I went to physical therapist who ordered it and they told me today it's a 3 to 4 mm protrusion in t 9 10 it's touching the cord and that it should be ok that I need to strengthen my back that the t spine is hard to injure so for it to get worse would have to have some serious trauma

That doesn't sound quite as bad as your first post! I realise that these things really are frightening and it's only natural to think the worst. I could tell you some tales about my back problems but I would need a whole day free to type it all!  But I'm having another fusion done in September so I'm hoping that will be me pain free - well I can dream.......

Hope you manage to get something sorted soon Joanna, nobody deserves to be trying to cope with all that pain.

    Joanna08685,

I understand how it feels to be told that it is all in your head and I am already in a wheelchair. Over 2 years ago I had an ENG done by a pain specialist and, he was acting just fine until I mentioned a previous history of having a worker's comp injury.

Suddenly he could not get me out of there fast enough and he wanted to send me to a shrink as well as physical thearpy. Now keep in mind that i had already been a partial paraplegic for over 4 years, so going to p/t was not going to help my situation. I also had the nerve test done before I was aware that I have CRPS in my right leg.

Well the doctor never did a follow up, nor did he return any calls. So About a year later I really needed another pain block and my primary did a referal to the same pain management clinic. The scheduling department set the pain block and I had the approval from my insurance.

I arrived that morning a few minutes early and yet they kept putting off calling me back. By the time I got back to the room, I knew that something was wrong. The doctor came in and proceeded to chew me out by saying that, he was no longer treating me and that it was all in my head.

I told him that I was in pain and, his response was, "Well if you are in pain, go to the er". I lost it and I admit, I had a few choice names for him as well. I tried to speak to the office manager to get the copay biling canceled. The doctor cam into the waiting room and told me that if I did not leave, he would call the police.

Every time I called to settle up my account, I was refered to his legal department. He even sent me a nasty letter for losing it in front of his other patients. To this day I wonder if I would of had a case against him or if he would of twisted things around and lied.

I really hope that you get the help that you need and even if you did end up in a wheelchair, there are alway options for.pain. I found a really great pain management doctor over a year ago and he refered me to a neurologist to have a new SCS implanted last Monday.

I really hope that you find some relief soon and while it may seem like thing are overwhelming right now, you will probably find that things do tend to work themselves out for the best. Drop me line here if you end up having to have surgery

      Joanna08685,

In March of 09 I started experiencing somebweakness in my legs and hips, my primary doctor sent me for a ct myelogram and the discovered a herniated disc at L2-L3 and scar tissue at L4-L5-s1 where I had a fusion done in 94.

Both of the herniation and the scaring

were causing damage to my spinal cord. By June of 09 the damge was ao severe that I ended up in a wheelchair.

While the last few years may of been rough at times, my wife and I have been trying to take things day by day. I know that you are woried about paralysis as well as how much your life would change.

I also know that in some ways it has made me stronger both physically and emotionally. So just keep in mind that everything happens for a reason and we are all a part of those reasons.

You know your body better than anyone else! That's such BS they would tell you it's all in your head! wth! I am happy for you that you have answers, but of course it's never easy getting results of back issues and it's also frightening! I hope you feel better! Have your doctors given you any options for the future?!
