anal fissure surgery - help!

Posted 15 minutes ago

hey guys.

i just had my anal fissure surgery last friday and after the surgery i just went home because the longer i stay in the hospital the higher the bill might get as i didnt subscribed for any medical insurance. so...

i'm just wondering on my condition after the surgery since i would only meet the doctor this friday for the follow up treatment.

my first bowel movement was quite okay since it eliminated the cotton*on saturday*. and the same goes for my second bowel movement in sunday. the pain was bearable during that time, the blood was only a bit on the poop and that was it.

however for my third bowel movement that happened yesterday it was too painful. during the bm it was quite ok.. after that... i cat even sit or walk for 5 hours.

as for today. in the morning i soaked my butt* is this even the right term???excuse my english* for 10 minutes and i could feel something coming out from the hole. and until now it didnt really go away.

so im asking is this normal? and how long does it takes to fully recover and what should i do in this recovery process?

im really worried as im going back to school soon and if this is going to continues it might distract my focus.

Thank you so much.

I had the surgery on the 13th. Today is the 23rd. The pain of having a BM is no longer an issue. That being said, immediately after a BM I begin feeling a tightness or pressure that builds and builds and eventually becomes like an excruciating Charlie horse. The pain lasts for hours at a time. Anywhere between 3 and 6 hours. Has anyone else experienced this? The doctor says it's likely muscle spasms, but it's trial and error for now. If you have experienced this sort of pain, what helped?

That sounds like your sphicter muscle going into spasm...what kind of surgery did you have?

I had a sphincterotomy and he removed two internal hemorrhoids while he was in there. It's just so painful after a BM... I'm hoping this is something that will get better.

I had same procedure a little over a months ago. You can read it in the thread. I feel great now. Lot of sitz baths or wet cloths applied to the area and always keep the area clean. Not doing anything for it now. Completely healed

I hope I'm feeling better within that sort of time period. It's nice to hear that you managed to get through it in good spirits. I'm sure one of these days it will all be better.I take any chance I can to have a sitz bath (about 4-5 a day as well as immediately after a BM). I only use Prep H wipes and only in a dabbing motion, never a wiping one. I have max dose of muscle relaxers and pain medication as well as anti-inflammatory meds. I rest as often as possible and walk to keep my blood flowing as much as I can stand. For the most part, my recovery is just great. The only problem is immediately after having a BM. I've never had a hard one since surgery. They are always soft and easy out. I've never strained to go or been on the toilet for more than a minute or two. Having a BM doesn't hurt. It's the pressure I feel after that becomes a charlie horse type pain and lasts for hours that's killing me. There is no position to get comfortable. Sleep is impossible because the pain is so bad. My doctor hasaid prescribed me with Nitroglycerin gel to see if it helps at all... I'm kind of at my wits end mentally with that part of my recovery. I don't know how much longer I can be scared to go to the bathroom like this. I am sure onenough day, it will be a thing of the past, but I seems to get worse every time it happens. Crossing my fingers that the gel works.

      Hi mercry90318,

I am sorry I haven't been able to reply until  now.

      How are you feeling?

I'm much better pain wise. The only hiccup is an abscess that formed behind my incision. It's draining on its own, but it's stoped the incision from completely healing. Two weeks of antibiotics and the doctor will decide what to do with me then if needed.

I am emotionally drained at this point. I go without the pain meds and muscle relaxers unless I know I will be sitting or walking for long periods of time or that I will be out and about where I might have a BM, and working 12 hour shifts at a desk and having to walk 6 miles of checkpoints during that time, you might see why I would need some medicated assistance. Without the medication, after having a BM, my muscles are still having spasms, though not intense or painful, still they are uncomfortable and make basic activities a burden that quickly turns into pain. Rest is my best option and ive become an expert at sleeping the uncomfortable away. Now with the abscess though, its like a reset on my progress of healing. I still maintain sitz baths regularly. The incision has healed, thank goodness for that. This added abscess though has kind of put me over the edge. It's draining, but not fast enough to take the pressure off of the sphincter muscle and inside the incision that was cut and it is also draining from within the rectum where I can not apply pressure to it to relieve the pressure from it. If it's not one thing, it's another. Now, I am also having headaches when I take the oxycodone to help with the abscess pain at work. Damned if I do, damned if I dont. Don't get me wrong though. This is still better than the pain of the fissure that I had, but I was not prepared for these sort of recovery complications. One more week before I see the doctor again and I am so scared that they will have to do yet another surgery for the abscess. I will let you know if that happens, but until then, I'm just happy I don't have the fissure pain. 😊

      Hi mercy90318,

Really sorry to hear about your struggles. The fissure and other complications truly is physically and mentally straining.  I hope it keeps getting better for you, and yes, update with what the doctor says.

I wish  there was more I could do to  help.

      Best,

      Myles
