    Hi Chump

It sounds like the Brandy is acting as a relaxant, so it might be worth trying hypnosis or meditation instead.  I've heard that there are some good hypnosis tracks on YouTube.  Ultimately it's most probably not great to have to rely on alchol to get rid of the symptoms but can understand that it must be frustrating if that's the only thing you've found so far that works.

    Hi,

having had panic attacks and treated them with alcohol, I know for myself that the alcohol made me much worse. What happened to me was it helped but once I was withdrawal ing from the alcohol I'd have another panic attack the next day. ( ten fold )..like during the hang over stage. I had much better luck with taking a benzo and although doctors talk about how highly addictive they are ect ect...I never had any trouble with addiction or needing to up my dosage at all. I did fine with them for over ten years and then having had to go to a new doctor they took me off them...( although I was doing fine with them) I was able to go off them with no side effects whatsoever...no withdrawal.  So, what do they do they out me on all these complicated SSRI's that caused so many problems, like sleep walking to the point of being outside and waking up in my yard, or having terrible back aches which I was told was fibro and yet I found out later was due to the crazy meds they put me on. So to try to avoid addiction they put me on a bunch of mind altering crap, that cause so much more harm than good AND they turned out to addictive in the sense they were hard to get off from. So for the next five years I did with out the benzos and was on three major mind altering drugs all of which caused something bad to happen to me. and didn't ever try the booze deal again because wow, that was horrid.

now I've found a sane doctor that put me back on a very low dosage of the benzo and life is much much better. My 2 cents. I'm not saying you don't have to be wary of. Enzo addiction and everyone is different. But if you do need to go on meds...start lite.

What are your after effects?  Sounds like you are continuing to panic.  Seeing a therapist helps to get to the reason you are having these attacks.  Most of the things we panic about never happens except in our minds.  Replace negative thoughts with pleasant ones.  For example, think about the things that are good in your life and be thankful: breath, food, clothing, your residence, family, etc. Also, volunteering to help others will take your mind off yourself. You are not alone. Praying for you Chump.

Although alcohol temporarily slows synapse activiity in the brain it is temporary so you end up drinking to self medicate.  Maybe not the best answer for you.  Have you thought about a pill when it gets bad.  I think beta blockers may help but seek medical advice first.
