After Hip replacement

I am having hip done soon and am really frustrated i cannot find any information on how to bend and even if you can bend?  I have dogs and cats and will need to get their bowls off floor to feed them and drinking water. Also no shower, just a bath (that i know you are not supposed to use) so how do i get a proper wash and wash hair without bending???  I don't want the worry of waiting until told how to to all this after op, i need to be thinking now and be prepared how to manage.  Only info. i can find is how to sit and lie in bed. Can anyone please tell me if they know any of this information.  Thank you Helen

    Hi Helen

I would love to know how you got on after your operation.

Not sure where you are from but the UK and USA sometimes have quite different rules.

Def. the 90 degree rule {so you dont cause dislocation} Its only for 6 weeks {in the UK} It is surprising how inventive you can become. This is for anyone else that wants information.......I know you must be past that stage by now but would be good to hear from you

    Love

Hi Helen there is lots of really good information, go onto youtube put in hip replacement recovery (not surgery) you will get all the information you need also vidios of all the things you are worried about, how to get into bed, into a car exercises that will help you.  Also another site called Bonesmart is fantastic I found that one first, look on there.

Get 2 grabbers if you have one you will drop it and be stuffed.  (I have a 3rd for my cat litter box) keep them on a bench never lean them against somehting cos they will fall down.

Practice getting dressed with them operated leg into trouses etc first.  Also practice lifting the dog bowls and emptyng cat litter etc you will get adept very quickly.

You will not be able to have a bath for a very long time, even climbing over the bath side to have a shower is a no no for a few weeks, sitting in a bath would not be reccomended.

I managed to go to the hair dresser after 4 weeks to have a wash and cut, this was wonderful.  Do you live alone? I do and so I bought a raiser recliner chair, I knew I would have trouble getting into bed I was more worried I could not get out to go to the loo.

This sounds negative remember week 4 I got on the bus and went into town, week 5 I am going out to lunch etc no gut wrenching hip pain thank goodness.

Good luck and best wishes Mags xx
