If you can't leave it like that get a new sterile dressing and peel the old one off and apply the new or even put the clean dressing over the dirty one, either way do not wash it unless you have sterile water and swabs.

the hospital sent me home with a few spare dressings and told me to change it on day 2 if it was stained.

    best wishes

My dear, everything sounds normal, honest. Take some pain killers, I did until yesteday.  Fingers? Normal. Mine are still stiff but getting there.  Be easy on yourself gal. This op recovery takes time and I was advised to do exactly as I was told. Don't rush things ok? Don't pull/push/lift. If worried ring that emergency number. They aren't going to send out an ambulance, it's just a number for you to ring if you are worried, so ring them. Hope this helps

My op is four days old now and the bandage came off Friday, leaving a clear patch with a small white pad underneath.  I was told not to remove this one because the moment you do, bacteria will get in and cause an infection. The dried blood is normal, unless it's still bleeding.  If it is, or you are unsure, you should have been given an emergency telephone number which will take you through to the 24/7 line.  Ask them for advice. Stitches should come out 10days after op, and NO using it. Simple finger exercises only until then.  Hope it goes ok

hi wini, i have dissolvable stitches in and i dont think its still bleeding i took the bandage off and underneath was that cotton wool like bandage with abit of dried blood so i cut that off carefully and that patch is full of dried blood so ive put the bandage back on so i dont catch it in my sleep the surgeon said take bandage off after 2 days but leave patch on for two week and get the doctor to check it but didnt mention if it bleeds change it or anything? thanks

      Hi

you need to keep it covered to prevent infection but do not use the big bandage. That just restricts movement and makes your fingers and the other joints in your hand stiffen up and add to your woes. At this point in your recovery you should have a simple dressing over the wound to keep it clean. Keep moving your fingers and start to use your hand slowly but surely. Listen to your body, if it hurts then don't do it!

    Hi

I was told to do the same as you, when my bandage came off the nurse advised me to stick another over the top the reason for this was incase I pull the stitches out wen trying to remove it, I know it looks awful but if you are worried go see the nurse and she will do it for you hope this helps
