Aftercare following ankle replacement

Trying to set up aftercare following ankle replacement, and it's expensive! I live alone, though, so will need it for the first few weeks. I could go into care for two weeks, where everything would be done for me - costs! The cost seems to be about the same for home care, too, as it would have to be full time initially. Thinking about home share, too, but the sharer quite reasonably wouldn't be responsible for my care. Maybe I should give up on walking altogether and get myself a scooter?

    Hello

I also live alone. It would have been wonderful to have full time care but I didn't want to spend that much. I ended up buying a knee scooter, transport wheelchair, walker and electric scooter to get around. I've used each of them for different situations. I enjoy the electric scooter the most. It allowed me to get around my neighborhood and apartment building on my own. I have a caregiver for 4 hours a day three times a week. She mostly does housework, runs errands and takes me to medical appointments.

You are smart to think about all this and plan ahead of time.

Hi, I too live on my own and am 62 although was quite active before my surgery. I too planned ahead which is sensible. I looked on the Internet for something which would render me mobile whilst NWB and I bought an i-Walk. I have to say I wouldnt have been able to manage without it! You just strap your leg into it and can walk normally around the house and outside. You also have 2 hands unlike using crutches or a frame. I even had a friend take me out for the day and went on a steam railway! You dont need to buy new. Ebay have them s/h. Other than that I just had a bath seat so I could shower and thats all I needed to get through it. Best of luck with your surgery.
