Aftermath stroke

I suffered a mild stroke a month ago. I am quite well now but always with a fear that could happen again. Always fearing that I would faint in streets. How could I get rid of these feelings? Thank you for answering. Fayçal

Has you doctor put you on some medicine to reduce the chances of another stroke?  I just had an ultrasound of the carotids and learned there is some plaque formation so I am going to look in to diet to reduce plaque and cholesterol which at this point is rather high...so is my LDL.  My doctor is quite good at keeping me up to date on these blood levels.  Now my job is to get those levels down and I know that is mainly through diet and exercise.  Wish I could offer more help than this.  Good luck.  I think  if we are proactive with our health we can trust we are doing what it takes to lessen the risk of future attacks.

Hi Barbara, I am Fayçal living in Morocco. I had the same thing than you? Yes my doctor put me on medicine to reduce the chances of any other stroke. But if I feel much better, my head always work and send me bad signals. Sometimes I am in the street and it says something will happen to you. I know somewhere inside me that nothing will happen but still my brain sends these false signals. I say false because I don't feel anything not normal. And I still not feel that I have completely recovered. I still fell tiredness during the day and I need to rest, even to take a nap. Then after, I feel better. Do you think we can recover completely after a mild stroke? I try to maintain my cholesterol level as low as possible being helped by a drug my doctor gave me to control it. I just feel better talking to people like you who send messages to tell their misfortune. Thank you. I'll go on writing. Fayçal

I know the feeling. I would not mind feeling a bit ill or dizzy near my home or car but would not like to be on the street away from home. Not sure why as someone could call an ambulance. Maybe just don't want to feel like a bit silly falling down in the street. Since my TIA a year ago I have had these feelings and just got a taxi to A & E to get checked out. Usually by the time I am checked everything is ok again. Maybe plan when you go out what you can do if you feel ill. Have a mobile phone with you and have a friend's number handy or a taxi number. Bset of luck but I have found that the feelings get less and less as time goes on and confidence builds up. Good luck.

Hi , I also know how you feel , I think it is sometimes the fact that the stroke we had was so unexpected and such a shock to the system that our mind keeps thinking " what if " but all the stress and fear it is causing only makes life so much harder. Have as many tests done as your Dr can get done for you, find out what may have caused the stroke and you can then work on the areas of your body that need improving. It will take a while but the feeling lessens and I realised that if I did have something happen to me while out shopping there are far more people to help than if you were at home alone. I wish you all the best. Take care. Dee x

Five months ago I felt that I had a sudden massive stroke while exercising. I was blessed and did not suffer any permanent neurologic damage. However, after the stroke I was having frequent episodes of numbness and tingling, and high blood pressure. I was put on 80mg atorvistatin, aspirin and lisinopril for blood pressure. .After two months I finally had a carotid ultrasound which revealed an ulcerated plaque in my right internal carotid artery which the Doctors told me the atorvistatin would heal. But it seemed I was becoming more unhealthy. Soon I started having dizziness and then heart palpitations which troubled me because before the stroke I felt perfectly and I was not on any meds. Then my labs showed my liver enzymes were elevated and my blood pressure was dropping too low. So after two months I stopped taking my meds and started seeing a naturopath. He put me on fish oil and ran some different labs including a test for statin induced myopathy, which it turns out that I had. Since I have been off meds I am feeling much better, my labs are normalizing but my blood pressure is still fluctuating throughout the day from 100/60 to 160/100. My advice is be careful with the medications you are taking.
