Again, ultrasounds for prolapsed bowel, is it appropriate?

Passing motions for me is so strenuously uncomfortable where my rectum is so very distended, is like passing bullets down strings of spinach, I am concerned although this may sound daft, of it snapping or tearing, does anyone know if this is a possible eventuality where its so dreadfully distended, if that would be life threatening and what can be done if it happens?  Main point, I see more people again saying they have had ultrasounds for their bowel trouble yet my GP has said repeatedly that they are not designed to be used for the purpose of identifying bowel trouble, specifically ulcers, which I asked her about, where's everyone going with this one, why am I getting fobbed off, at least I assume that as everyone with bowel problems are saying they are having ultrasound, is it just my face?

I omitted to say I strain frightfully all the time and can't seem to help it, sensible diet and do take lactulose as its the gentlest laxative I've found but think why when I still strain just as much after taking laxatives, why have the unpleasant ordea of diarrhoea on top of the persistent straining, probably from surgery which means I am hoisted up and lose control of my remaining muscle function, and the stinging sensation and general unpleasantness you get?  I would not consider laxido as found them much more potent and unpleasant and feel personally use over long periods of time would just not be wise practice, Fiona

I would have thought that a camera examination (colonoscopy) would be the right method, as I agree an ultrasound is not the right one. Go back and insist on having one you shouldn't have to live with this xx

Thanks Louise, I have an April consultant but that could be brought forward on GP approval, I will try to get a colonoscopy sorted then, thanks once again, Fiona

I think your doctor is probably right ultrasound cannot see inside your colon.  There are several  types of tests used for that barium enema /swallow where you swallow some whilte stuff and then the radiographer can sort of see the inside of your colon, colonoscopy where a camera is used inside the camera and another used sometimes where you swallow a camera and it keeps transmitting pictures to a belt you wear round your waist

Thanks Jon, I have had colonoscopy four years ago but believe things, my health have either not improved (despite surgery) or even got worse so it might be worth having another, also I had the one with the camera going down to diagnose my hernia, but feel another one if these could also be an idea as I think I may have dudenol or peptic ulcer so I will ask my GP or the gastroenterologist or both, thanks
