aggression and sertraline

I was off work with stress and depression in November. I was given Sertraline. After three weeks I went back to work. I was told I was aggressive with colleagues and eventually to cut a long story short a disciplinary investigation was started. I now face a hearing and possibly could lose my job.

When the investigation started I wondered whether it was the tablets so I stopped taking them on the advice of my GP. It took about a month for the effects to wear off. I also had terrible night sweats and constipation.

I am now taking Duloxetine which doesnt seem to affect me in the same way.

Has anyone experienced aggression with Sertraline. I am told I was in a frenzy at one point.

the medication may not have helped in the short term with your stress and anger but ive not experience this

however once i started to come out of my depression a little bit i did notice i was becoming more assertive and would not let people speak to me in a bad way and stuck up for wot i believed in - maybe you were just starting to feel better.

as for your working disciplinary i would def get a witness to attend your meetings i.e. a union rep and explain the situation - the doc might also be willing to write a letter explaining these were the side affects of the meds

nell, i have a good shout to try and relieve building up tension/frustration. i get quite frustrated with myself with stupid wee things but more often than not i can laugh them off. its ok to get angry/upset as long as you recognise its just emotions and its your own reaction to situations. im on a huge learning curve. i feel like im living now not just existing. take things easy, channel your aggression...even if it is screaming into a pillow! Its okay smile

My partner was put on sertraline and the levels of sudden and violent aggressive episodes are frightening. He makes it worse by drinking alcohol along side it. On more than one occasion I have been physically threatened.

This is an old article but I experienced aggression with Sertraline, like major aggression, and hope it will help someone else. Everything set me off. I wasn't on it long enough to be violent but the things that came out of my mouth surprised even me. It wasn't a good situation. I offended and hurt anyone who said anything that p****d me off and it didn't take much. If you have OCD, try Paxil instead. Had I stayed on Sertraline, I am 100% positive I would have lost my job, my wife, and probably ended up in jail. Needless to say, I do NOT recommend this drug. Everyone is different but this would be my drug of last resort.
