I have had a frozen shoulder for about 3 months and had physio once a week and was getting better movement and was happy with my progress but after laying in bed for 2 days due to a migraine i woke up with intense pain in the shoulder. Went to physio who did some dry needling couldnt sleep with the pain. Had a cortisone injection yesterday and in agony today . Have just started a new job last week and need some pain control advice or your experiences with cortisone injections.

    Hi Julie,

I thought I had frozen shoulder, aprox 2 months ago. It ended up being calcified tendinitis.  But for about 11 days straight I had this stupid constant pain that never went away, and even touching my shoulder /upper arm  sent me through the roof. Like you frozen shoulder sufferers ...NO pain meds helped..but I did try Tiger Balm. Have you heard of it? It's an ointment that is really strong smelling and rubbing it into the area that hurts ( sorry, I know the term 'hurt' isn't the right one for your pain!!) makes it feel a bit better, for s little bit of time... I practically bathed in it.. lol... maybe it may put your pain 'at bay' a tiny bit???? Never hurts to try. Patient: 'Frozen Stiff' was right with me, as I didn't have frozen shoulder... thanks!

    Good luck Julie!!!

I bought some tiger balm and it does help a bit. Used a lot already. Thanks for the tip 😊

Oh I'm glad you got some and it helped a bit. It takes your mind off the constant pain at least...

Hope your day is not a painful one....

I had a cortisone injection 2 weeks ago and was in despair a few days later as it hadn't seemed to have any effect

Now 2 weeks later , although I am still getting some pain, the agony has gone and am only waking at night with an ache

This is something I can live with if I have to

I'm only doing gentle exercises and have a very slight improvement in my range of movement

I hope this helps and you start to improve  in a week or so

Just another thing I meant to share

Sometimes the cortisone injection can cause what "they" describe as a Cortisone flare

This can come on 24hrs to app 72 hours and lasts for a few days

      This then settles down again

      Good luck

      It's a horrible condition!!

Careful with the physical therapy. My Orthopedic specialist recently said that he never sends patients to phisio while in the painful stage, because it makes F.S. worse.  Wish I would have known that in the beginning stages of F.S.  I have had another doctor admit that the medical community really doesn't know what causes F.S.  or really how to treat it.

I am still dealing with this frozen shoulder almost two years after my family  doctor had me in Phisio for about four months!at the beginning of my F.S.. Apparently, that was a mistake, for me anyway.  My advice to my self two years ago, if it hurts, do not do it..  My "no pain no gain" attitude  apparently prolonged my frozen shoulder.  Just my experience.

What helped me..Massage twice a month.  Also, tigers balm, hot baths with lots of epsom salts and drape a hot towel over your shoulder in the bath.  I had five cortisone shots in last two years, honestly they gave me very bad headaches and did not help a great deal.

Careful with your shoulder. Don't make my mistake and try to be aggressive.  From my experience, the healing takes just as long  as the condition did to come on, slow!

Take good care and feel better.

Ps, if you haven't already discovered this, always sleep with a pillow under your frozen arm.  It helps..
