Air-heels

Thought I'd let you  know how I got on with the air-heels. I have to be honest, if I was to give any marks out of 10 it would be 2. Bought mine from ebay and wore them the first day, funny feel to them as they have a sort of tube inserted into the air sac. Had them on for about an hour outdoors and most of the evening indoors so not really a good test, Today I was on my feet for most of the morning with the air-heel and my foot was absolutely killing me. This time I was getting pain in ALL of my foot, not just the heel almost like a cramp feeling, not pleasant. That's the funny thing about air-heels, the sac goes just in front of the heel, a sort of in-step but an expensive one. I was really hoping that the sac would be extremely inflated but it's about half an inch high and I have no doubt that's as high as it should go. This might work on someone who's PF isn't as painful but to be honest I was in as much pain as I would've been with gel inserts. My hopes have been shattered as I thought this might've been the answer, I feel really down because I just don't know where to go now. Injections haven't got a good reputation, inserts are good for a short while but not long-term, stretching just made things worse. If I go back to the doc it will have to be at a later time because I'm already seeing him for something else and I don't want him to think I am a hyperchondriac but I can see myself having to be x-rayed just to be on the safe side. I don't even know how it all started, I don't run or do high velocity exercises. Anyway, thanks for listening. If anyone has a 'definite' answer to PF please post it.

Have you checked into Z Coil shoes?  They were a lifesaver before my PF surgery.  They are hard to find in US.  Not sure about the UK.  You may have to order them from their website.  Hope you find relief.  It is miserable!

      Hi Jenny,

what surgery did you have for your PF? Also did it work. I had my calf muscles released 8 weeks ago, not had any relief what so ever & been left with a slightly bent & very painful left knee.

suffered with it for 2and a half years now and getting so frustrated

I had the PF release.  The left foot was done about 8 years ago and gives me no problems.  The right one is still in recovery as the surgery was in February.  Recovery time is 6-12 months.  I think the 12 months is definitely the one this time.  I just pray that this one works as well as the first.  I would not recommend it if there is any other way but if you have exhausted every other option with no relief, I would consider it.

    *sigh* Hi Ann...

I ordered a pair of the FitFlops..... $108.00....and I can't get my fat swollen foot in the left one!! I'm so dissappointed. I've got to find something I can wear on that foot. Anyway, so I can't really give any feedback on the shoes accept they are very well made and nice looking. I'm so sad to hear about the Aircast shoe. We can't give up...there has to be something made for chronic sufferers. I just don't know where, what, when, or how yet.

That's a shame Ladyjack, I hope the swelling subsides soon so you can make the most of the FitFlops, perhaps when the weather cools down. I've heard good things about them so do not give up just yet. As for something being done about chronic sufferers of PF I am not holding my breath. There isn't even clinical trials going on, certainly not in the UK. In the meantime we are spending money on things that might or might not work and I don't think the top people in the medical profession know how many people are suffering this terrible problem, perhaps if more doctors made a point of letting orthopaedic consultants know the true extent someone might get something done about it. I know, IT'S INFURIATING!!!! and we feel so alone. Please don't give up on Aircast either, it didn't work for me but it might work for you. Look it up on eBay instead of paying out for brand new ones. All the best - Ann
