    Hi Sally,

This sounds horrible, not something I have experienced but didn't want you to have no replies.

There could be a few reasons for this. Firstly let's think about the lungs. Low estrogen causes our mucous membranes to become drier so it stands to reason this can include our lungs. Some women can be diagnosed with asthma during this phase of their lives as well.

How about anxiety? This can cause many unpleasant physical symptoms. Another awful symptom that seems common in peri/menopause.

Then you have things like reflux, this can cause a sensation of chest tightness, which could give the feeling of not being able to breath properly. Acid relux/bloating etc seem to be common in peri/menopause.

Allergies could also be a reason.

Other things aside from peri/menopause could be sleep apnea or thyroid issues. Perhaps considering these things you could see if any fit and may help you find a solution.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Finkyb

I have had this; it is really scary. i have used accupressure points to help. Try using your thumb to massage the palm of your hand - in a clockwise direction. Sounds bonkers but it really calms me and helps me find my breath again. .
