Aircast Knee Cryo Cuff with Cryo Cuff Cooler Saver Pack

I am having my 2nd TKR on 8th Dec and been reading about the Aircast Knee Cryo Cuff with Cryo Cuff Cooler Saver Pack can you let me know if you have purchased and used one and do you think it speeded up your recovery as it should help reduce the swelling and pain and help movement.

Or have you used anything similar, the reason for asking was last TKR the swelling and pain went on forever it seamed and it was the swelling mainly which hindered the bending, and I am hoping if I get everything into place ahead of the op, maybe it will help my recovery.

I purchased one last week and it certainly helps with reducing swelling. It was a bit pricey though for what it is but it does the job. You just need plenty of ice to cool the water it doesn't take long for your body to warm up the water that is in the cuff. I have it on now while I watch the rugby X

Did you start using it straight after your op, when did you have your TKR and how is your recovery and physio going?

I'm now 9 weeks post op but only started using last week. I wish I had bought it from the start but the price put me off but if I knew then what I know now I would have bought one sooner.  I'm struggling with range of movement and I think the swelling was one of the causes of the problem. My strength is fairly good I can walk without a stick but I've still got a way to go before full recovery. I'm having physio 3 times a week now and I'm quite positive that I'm going to improve rapidly from now on x

Sounds like you are doing well, hope mine goes as well, will keep you updated 10 days to go.... oh my I hate this wait, trying to block it out. Know how hard it is once it done, but then you know its just the long road to full recovery.

Great advice, thanks for contributing, hows your recovery going?

I used them on all four of my knee scopes and two shoulder impingements ops.  GREAT PRODUCT!!!  For my TKR, they sent me home with an electric pump device with ice packs in the unit.  Just the auto version of the manual AirCast.  I still have the cryocuff in the attic if I ever need it.

PS: NOTHING speeds up a TKR recovery...nothing.  The knee heals in its own time.  Just take care of the swelling (ice/elevate), stay on your med schedule, do your ROM work and be patient.  Push the knee and it will bite you back.  Do do that.

Yes you're right but this device helps keeps the swelling down so that you can actually do your ROM exercises I think that is what has been holding me back staying at the same range of motion for weeks. Every little helps 😋

All you can do is follow the program.  Pushing the knee sets you back with days of additional swelling you don't need.  I suggest a pedometer to track steps.  Gotta know your limits but expand them gradually.  No one knows in advance, or even during recovery, how long that recovery will last...

You hope that you're -3 SD from the mean and pray that you're not +3 SD.  95% of us fall in the middle; that means it's going to take somewhere from 10-14 months to fully recover which is why everyone says: "Give it a year."   You hear sooooo many people say that they start feeling like their old selves at 10 months and celebrate when they hit their first anniversary.  It's the most brutal of all surgeries and takes the longest to recover from...and it's not for lack of trying.  But do too much and the knee will nail your butt to the wall...for days.

A TKR recovery cannot be pushed.  You can only do what you can and keep a steady course.  It will all resolve IN TIME.  Patience is the one lesson we all learn from this.  Deep breath...keep on keepin' on...

Thanks Chico, yeah I remember the tough road last time, but tying a few different things this time to see if it makes me feel a bit better and more positive along the way. If I remember right it was about 9 months before I really felt I turned the corner and two years on I never think about my first TKR, so I am looking forward once the op is done on 08/12. Read a lot of your advice, really helpful smile

I have one but found I liked the blur gel packs better. Its sort of personal choice I guess. One thing I did find if you use the gyro, keep frozen plastic bottles of water on hand at lay them in the cooler, then cover with water. Lot less messy than using ice cubes.
