Alcohol

A week before my op and post op I have given up alcohol. We usually share a bottle of wine at the weekend but with the meds I don't think I can. Is this the same for you?. Only three weeks to go, just in time for my wife's birthday. Tony

    Hi Tony:

I stopped drinking quite some time ago.  Main reason is that I want to be squeaky clean as I have stopped smoking and use E cigarettes, but not that much now, either.  Problem of course, is that "fags" and alcohol make good bed partners, so they both had to go.

I can't believe this thread, you literally beat my own post on the same subject by minutes.   I was wondering when I could enjoy a glass of wine on a Saturday evening again?  I only ever have a drink once a week

, have done for years. I'm off all medication now apart from Warfarin, the advice for that is the usual limits 2-3 units.

      Hi Kevin

Good info on Alcohol on Warfarin Group which you may already have seen. Started by christine34904

      Kevin,

I suspect that for warfarin, you have to stay 'dry'.

      Check the medicine leaflet.

Rivaroxaban is the warfarin replacement, much less problems, doesn't need constant blood tests to check the dosage is right.

Well, I am now at 4 weeks tomorrow, and only on Rivaroxaban, and according to all information I can see, alcohol IS allowed with it.

Alcohol was specifically banned with the earlier pain and anti-inflamatory meds.

I also like a glass of wine at weekends, but gave up a week or so before my operation, and intend waiting until after my supply of Rivaroxaban is exhausted as I believe alcohol affects the size of blood capilliaries and so might interfere with the blood thinners.

I just don't want to take that chance, just for the sake of a glass of wine, I can easily wait another ten days.

    Regards

    Graham

Apart from the first 10ish days after your op, as long as

you are eating ok, 1 glass of wine, or 1 small g and t,

will do you good. I stuck with 1 g and t, through both ops

and it didn't do me any harm.

    cheers Cathie
