Experiencing seizures if you try to stop drinking is a very, very serious issue.  It means that your body is so physically addicted to alcohol that it goes into shock when the alcohol is removed, and each time you attempt to stop then the risks are higher that you will experience them again.

There are safe and non-addictive medications that can help treat your condition, but you are unlikely to be prescribed them whilst you are at risk of seizures and/or other withdrawal symptoms.

This means that you are more likely to be prescribed a medical detox to safely remove all the alcohol from your system and then begin on one of the medications that can help you.

If you are in the UK, then the NHS will arrange a medical detox for you but there can be quite a long wait for this.  Do you have the option of a private home detox which will cost around £1000-£1500?

Good reply from Joanna. 40 units are perhaps 4 bottles of wine? A lot I think. Seek help from a specialist I think. Robin
