Alcohol affecting sertraline and sleep

Posted , 6 users are following.

I was originally put on sertraline because of sleeping issues mainly anxiety caused. It seems to be working quite well. I only have a night here or there that I have issues. But here's the thing. I've noticed that if I have a beer at dinner that I have trouble with sleep later.Anyone else having an issue like that? It's only one beer. I'm not sure I understand why but it never fails. I just have to be ready to deal with the consequences if I have a beer with dinner. I take my sertraline right before bed. Thanks for your help.

You can take your med right after breakfast in the morning so it will not interfere with your beerat dinner time.

Hi, I am on 150mg of Sertraline and always take it with breakfast, that may help you too.

It advises not to drink on sertraline, I love a glass or 3 of wine, but now I have it has a spritzer no matter what colour, red, white or ros'e I quiet like the long drink and not having a bad head in the morning. I take mine about 7.30pm only because I was having such bad side effects I could sleep most of them off.

Mixing alcohol with drugs that affect your brain chemistry isn't advised.

Hi Carolyn, I wouldn't have thought one beer would have any effect whatsoever on your meds, if anything it would make you drowsy, I'm tempted to say have two beers lol (sorry).

    Hi There smile

It's advised not to drink alcohol whilst taking these meds but I think taking your tablet in the morning is better. So when you have a beer in the evening, everything will have been settled.
