Alcohol and Citalopram

Hi, I've been on 20mg of Cit for 12 months and been doing well, a few blips here and there but generally well. I've never drank alcohol all the time I've on the meds, but at the weekend I was at a baby shower and foolishly drank alcohol!! OMG this week my anxiety is through the roof and the side effects are all back with vengeance and I'm in my head again trying to work out is it the alcohol or have the meds pooped on me. I'm guessing it's the alcohol, but has this happened to anyone else and how long before things settle again. I'm not proud of this and will never drink alcohol again whilst taking these meds!!! Thank you D

Hi Denise. i've the same feelings when i drink alcohol during the week end . I've a low mood, feeling tired and brain fog for the first days of the week. Normally feeling better starting mid-week. Perhaps the alcohol is reducing the effectiveness of the med. Wishing you the feel better soon

Hi, thank you for your reply. This is the first time I've had alcohol whilst on the meds. I did have quite a bit, god I so regret it now. It's the physical symptoms more than anything, feeling anxious, heart racing and fearful. It's just how I felt in the first few weeks/months while my body adjusted to them!! If it's the alcohol then I would relax a bit, but frightened the meds are pooping out on me. I don't want to contact my GP as they might increase my dose, which I don't want to do. I'm just going to try and ride it out to see if it settles, but it's like I'm back at the beginning again and all the " what if" questions, its really knocked me after doing so well. D

Hi. Do you have better days since the last weekend? For me, each time that i drink too much alcohol, it could take up to 3-5 days before i'm back to good days. You had a good year. I'll be very surprised that you'll go back to day 1.... i think that your anxiety and physical symptoms are related to the alcohol. Keep safe

Hi, thank you for your reply. Today is the best day I've had since last Sunday!! Yes I agree it's the alcohol that's knocked me off course. At least I learnt now not to drink alcohol on this med lol Let's hope I'm getting back on track. Hope you're doing well D x

Hi Denise. So, are you back on track? I hope so... Alcohol is really not a good mix with the meds... i had some drink last week-end and i was dealing with anxiety and physical symptoms (mainly in my head).. back to normal today... keep well
