I know how helpless you feel, that whatever changes you've made haven't helped. But look, your changes will pay off. Little steps and you will recover. Keep on with the betahistine. If you have allergies then use nasal sprays to keep tubes clear. Please read Self Help for Menieres by Meniere Man. Please try and do everything you can yourself to avoid attacks, the book really helps with great advice, every attack causes more damage to your hearing. Your inner ear is repairing, like a wound, so you will have secondary attacks in a short space of time until it heals. Not an overnight quick fix I'm afraid. But deep breathe, take little naps, take walks if you can with someone. Rest and avoid stress. Re the alcohol, it affects the inner ear, probably stops the pills from working well also. So my suggestion is you pick and choose when to have a drink but having lots then you're on dangerous ground and could bring on a vertigo attack. Plus tinnitus increases. This is all my personal opinion and based on my experiences. (35 vertigo episodes in 18 mths). I'm now on double dose of betahistine plus a diuretic. Had a grommet inserted, which stayed in for 2 years but fell out. No attacks for over 2 years. I do have the odd alcohol. Good luck, read up on how to stay as well as you can.

Whilst Angela offers good advice I tend to agree with you Steve, I also systematically and methodically cut out all the "bad stuff" one by one and collectively with no change, you will also note on this forum that so many people have different meds etc all with varying effect, injections gromets etc, crikey even get diagnosed seems to be  " if all else fails then call it menieres" I am convinced the medical profession dont get it, I read Menieres Man and yes good advice but maybe this guy was just lucky it went away. certainly my attacks started a dozen years ago and were up to a year between attacks, although when they happened were 3 in relativly quick sucession, which they have been since, so interesting to read Angelas comment on this, I had my last bout maybe 2 months ago, 3 again, and bothing since but i do take the betahistine 3 x 16 daily although i do wonder about these as well, but I guess we all need some psycological help to give us hope, whether its abstinance or drugs, the bottom line no one has yet difinitley come up with hte answers we all want, heres hoping! keep us posted on how your doing, it alll helps

I assume you have been properly diagnosed by ENT &/or Audiophysiology consultant?

Suggest you request significant increase in  your betahistine dose. That is what did the trick for me. I am currently on 62mg 3 times daily and fully under control apart from residual tinnitus and hearing loss that I can cope with.

Don't lose hope  - 70% of sufferers recover so the odds are on your side..

I'm not a heavy drinker (my job and schedule doesn't allow for drinks during the week), but I feel your pain. I'm currently finishing up a round of steroid injections to try and calm down a series of attacks. I am constantly dizzy, seasick and "fuzzy brained". My doctor has told me vestibular rehab should help, but I've had little success. I'm probably in line for a series of Gentimicin injections. I had one last year and it seemed successful for about six months. One thing I've noticed about the alcohol is that after 2 drinks, my dizziness seems to subside. But the constant aural pressure and pain is what's killing me. Hope you feel better.
