alcohol and prednisone

Is it ok to have an occasional glass of wine while taking this stuff? I had one the other night and got a terrible headache. I am on a couple other meds too.

Apparently there is no direct interaction between alcohol and prednisone but if you look up the question on the internet you will find that there are some contraindications depending on the condition the prednisone is being used to treat, for instance some people may be prone to gastric effects.  I would say if you get headaches, then avoiding alcohol is wise.  I have the occasional beer or sherry or glass of wine and I have invariably paid for it.  So I'm in the same boat as you.  I guess we just have to decide whether the price (headache) is worth the sociability of sharing a drink.  The other point of course is that having a headache will lead to taking a painkiller, and that could be bad for the old stomach, too.  Sigh - not an easy road.  I assume you have had a conversation with the pharmacist about any pssible interactions amongst your various prescriptions?

I am not qualified to advise you about drinking alcohol as regards any medication you are taking but I wondered if you had your glass of wine on an empty stomach or with a meal? I only have the occasional glass of wine with a meal and have no ill effects but apart from the steroids, calcichew and vit D I am not taking anything else.

I actually had a wine spritzer , which was less alcoholic. I was at a restaurant and drank some of it before dinner arrived. Maybe that caused the headache.

I guess that could be the reason. I try to ensure that I have something to eat first but as you say a spritzer is less alcoholic. As Anhaga suggested it would be prudent to check it out with your pharmacist especially as you are taking other medication. Could it have been the fizz from the spritzer?? I have found any alcoholic drink which has fizz even if diluted with sparkling water, when taken on an empty stomach, gives me a headache.
